Programming keys
Programming keys
Well it finally happened, hoped it wouldn't, but it did.
I walked out of the house this morning to my truck in perfect condition as usual, so it seemed...
Opened the doors, went to put the key in and ***??? Someone had broken into the truck, stuck a screwdriver in below the ignition cylinder, and busted the plastic shroud around the column. I thought "well hell, now i gotta buy parts" so i put the key in, truck started, and died.
They busted the sentry key unit inside the column. The dealer wants 154 for the parts, but they want 114 to program my keys to it afterwords if I do the labor, and 200 bucks if they do the labor. They also want 85 bucks to paint the new trim for around the column.
My question is:
Can I program the keys myself with a new sentry key module? Is it the same procedure as programming a key in the owner's manual? I don't want to pay the jackasses 114 bucks for 10 minutes worth of work, but if I have to I have to, there is also the problem of getting the truck to the dealership to begin with.
Any help would be great!
