Have you read many posts around here yet?

Lets hear from the Smarty guys....

Seriously , you sound like you want the best of everything (don`t we all) and don`t want to pay for it. I`m not sure you`re going to get ALL of the things you want without spending some serious cash...and even then it`ll be tough.
If you get more HP , you` going to want to use it , hurting you mileage....smoke will do the same thing , and unless you find something used you`re not going to get it cheap.

wwm:

Let me see if I can help you with your choice here.

I have a Smarty Programmer on my 2006 Dodge CTD CR and LOVE IT! It does everything that I want it to do and with my TST-PM 3 CR w/R-49, my truck laid down 581 H.P./1030 TQ. and that was with a STOCK fuel system and STOCK injectors! Pretty good numbers IMHO.

In addition to that, Marco and Bob Wagner (Smarty's Designer/Engineer and Sales/Service Staff) are great guys to deal with. Bob Wagner is on this diesel website and almost all others CONSTANTLY checking and monitoring the threads reference to their Smarty Programmers to make sure their products are working well and their customers are completely satisfied. And Bob even goes "above and beyond" to help customers OF OTHER DIESEL PROGRAMMERS when they have trouble! Who else will do that?? Now I know you may not believe that, so here is a link to a thread for you to read where Bob Wagner and Marco DID JUST THAT! And guess what?? They helped one of our Members, namely, DTR Member "matego" with a bad problem on the OTHER PROGRAMMER YOU ARE CONSIDERING, namely, the "Diablo Predator!"
Bob Wagner starts helping at post #19 and Marco gets involved on post #32 in that thread.

Here is the link to that thread with the facts on what happened:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=189573

Read it and judge for yourself. But IMHO,....the Smarty Programmer is the only way to go and Bob Wagner and Marco give GREAT customer service and product support.

I've never owned the Smarty, and never will. My predator makes just as many horsepower, and my EGT's are just fine, add that to the much more sane price tag and its a no brainer.

I do know how much HP/Tq I'm making. I've found two things that help to eliminate the loads of black smoke and both work very well for me;
  • Keep your foot out of it till the turbo spools enough pressure
  • Use Standadyne Proformance fuel additive (my snake oil of choice). You can see in the brochure it talks about reducing opacity.
YMMV
Back to morning brew. . .

I really like my predator and I think it makes great power, so does my brother on his 06. He has tried the TNT on his truck but he likes the way the RKL tunes feel on his truck. One word of advise on this subject is that everyone thinks that their programmer is better than yours. On this site you will find that if your not running a smarty then you must not be making power. Just for comparison I made 463hp and 1023tq with the RKL tunes and MP8 TCR said from a previous post on 4.4 he made 492hp and 1077tq but he also had a 62/65/14 turbo.

These are just ego contests......which is better, this or that...... I have the Smarty and wouldn't even consider anything else. Please, upgrades are not bad and are available even if you send it back and if you want smoke, mpg's, hp's or anything else tied to it all the Smarty is the only way to go. I have had some of the others and hands down the Smarty is the best. I've talked with Bob and he's a real person, real responsive and real easy to get along with. I'll pass on the other stuff.

That, as I see it, is the biggest advantage of a Smarty. Diablosport could care less about their customers.
