Power steering to brake booster hose leaking
Power steering to brake booster hose leaking
I have my truck in the dealership getting the oil changed. It's a 2004.5 with 76K. They say my hose that goes from the power steering pump to the brake booster is leaking. The part is $55 (they have to order it) and the labor is $300 to replace it. I'm fairly handy. Is this a DIY job? Also, my neighbor to my office is a mechanic (some diesel experience but not a specialist by any means). Shouldn't he be able to do a job like this? I have a feeling he would charge me a lot less.
I just changed both hoses, it took less than an hour. After hoses were changed I started the truck, locked the wheel from side to side to bleed and replaced P/S fluid. Fairly simple job, the hardest part was getting the flair nut to thread into the P/S pump laying on my back.
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like something I could do or maybe get a quote from the mechanic next door. When I heard it was a pressure line, I immediately became concerned. The fact that neither of you mentioned that, is it safe to assume it's not a concern?
I'm not familiar with the bleeding process for the fluid. Would this be a good time to do a complete flush of the brake fluid?

Both lines off of the hydro brake booster are high pressure, but there is no pressure when the pump is not running, so no big deal changing. I have almost 60K on my CTD and I did not do a flush. The P/S fluid looked good. As far as bleeding the P/S hose, it's as simple as I stated earlier. FYI, there have been multiple Engineering changes on the hoses over the years due to the plastic line inside of the hose becoming dislodged and sucked into the hydro boost tube. That was my reasoning for changing. If you have tools and the time, it's an easy fix, save yourself some $$ for fuel!
