Part identification help!!

My dad found this part which looks like a pressure regulator with a compression spring in a drain pan when he was dumping oil. I sent the pictures to cummins and they said it might be a check valve for the oil pump. I had removed my oil pump on my 05 5.9 and I didn't see a place where this would go. The engine oil cooler has a check valve, but it hasn't been touched. If you know what this is, please chime in. The spring is about 2 3/8" long and regulator cap is 1". Thanks

lol..just got done answering my other post on what you said and here you are again. The guys at cummins thought the same thing, but that valve in the oil cooler is different. This little part supposedly rides in the grooves of the fork shifter on the transmission being I have a 6spd. I dropped the tranny to do the rear main seal/wear sleeve so it must have popped out. I will look at it tomorrow and take pictures and update on my findings in case anyone runs into this issue.

I think he means the oil collection pan which was used for tranny service previously.

I checked the oil pressure relief valve spring etc. That spring is a lot bigger than the one in the picture I posted. We still haven't been able to determine what the part goes to yet. I wouldn't worry so much if it weren't for that cap with the hole that allows fluid to go through.

What vehicles has the pan been used for? Maybe it goes to a different vehicle.
