Pacbrake? Info please

I am the proud owner of a 2003 Ram 2500 4x4 CTD with auto 48re tranny. I have been to pacbrake.com & see that they have an exhaust brake for the auto tranny. Anybody have any thoughts or opinions on PacBrake? Thanks!

Re:Pacbrake? Info please

phildog,

I installed a PacBrake on my 03 some three weeks ago. It works as advertised. The updated installation instructions are on their web site for downloading. They are more complete than the ones packed in the kit.

The 48RE tranny has a converter lock-up in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. It was designed that way to be used with an e-brake without modification. The old 47RE had warranty problems with an e-brake because of no lock-up in 2nd gear. An e-brake should not be used in any gear without converter lock-up because tranny may over heat.

I believe PacBrake has the simplest design as it is activated by a small compressor which is controlled by the ECM. the compressor operates on 12V. the difference between the auto tranny kit and the manual tranny kit is the location the compressor mounting.

I am very happy with the pervormance of mine.
