P0148 Fuel issue?..

Hi guys,

Well, the other day I swapped the 2000 2500 CTD for a 2005 and got the crew cab and short bed that I was looking for w/ 41k miles to boot. Very nice.. drove the six speed and in the end decided on the auto.. quite a bit of city driving and I just plain fell in love with this truck.

On the way home last night I got the ol' MIL (malfunction indicator light) and did the key access for the code and got the above noted P0148. Checked under the hood and it looks to me like the oil is due.. pretty black and am wondering if I may just be needing a fuel filter as well..

Time to check the dealer, I guess and make sure I'm not looking at a lift pump...

BTW, I have a Fleetguard LF3894 oil filter from the 2000... is there a chart that would tell me if this would fit this new 05..??

Your not alone.

My 06. with 41000, shows the same code but without a light. Headed for the dealer yesterday on a rollback. Will not start! I started having a long crank time for the last week or so and then it wouldn't start after getting warmed up. Now nothing at all. Hope your luck is better then mine.

P0148..

Finally made it to the Dealer before my 30 days ran out on my warranty... Yep, P0148 and 13 tests when getting the fuel delivery error.. all passed; functioning fine.. cancelled the light or whatever they do to it. So today, a day later.. light is back on.
Service manager's comment to the question:"what do I do when it comes on again?" He says:"Well?, it's kind of a crap-shoot, really" "The simplest thing can turn it on, gas cap loose.."
Thanks buddy after $130 bucks.. (at least the dealer picks it up this time)

Now what?.. guess I wait and see if it will go out by itself once again, like the first time.

If I'm not mistake that code is for fuel delivery..if so it sounds like your lift pump is failing. I would recommend getting a fuel pressure gauge to monitor your fuel pressure. Assuming it is too low then you have 2 options...first is to get yours replaced under warranty or the other option is to look into a walbro set up from Glacier diesel http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/

A loose gas cap will not set a MIL on our diesel trucks...that only happens on gas vehicles with Evaporative emissions controls on the tank, I would have to say the dealer you took it to lacks a little diesel experience, you may want to try another dealer. The lift pump should be covered under powertrain warranty but at the very least be covered under 3yr/36k.

Cheers,

Unfortunatly I dont think it is a lift pump or fuel filter issue. It is a good idea too change it for a try.....but i have bad news for ya, sounds like too me you have a sticking injector causing a rail pressure drop. I had the same thing happen too me, wasted my time checking the lift pump and changing the 1000mile fuel filter. But I would look into a lift pump if you plan on BOMBing the truck, and you should be running a 2 micron filter!!

If the light is coming on @ constant speed, then you my friend have a sticking injector and should get them replaced ASAP, before it gets worse and starts dumping diesel into the oil, and melting a piston!!! Bosch has updated injectors for our application with hardened plungers and seats to help prevent this from occuring.

FWIW, unless you get a FS2500 system, your oil will be black after the very first start after an oil change, unfortunate side effect of the 3rd injection event!

0148 is a checksum code for the fuel rail pressure it basically says that the rail pressure is not meeting the setpoint that the ecm calls for the rail to recieve. definately a fuel delivery problem, lift pump, cp3.
