Out with the old & in with the new!!

Lift pump gave up at 87k miles, while 400 miles from home and on the weekend of course. Wasn't real sure it was the pump as I just changed the fuel filter 3 days ago & thought that could be the problem. The truck stalled 2x while waiting to get thru U.S. Customs. Got a couple miles down the road when it just died completely @ 70 m.p.h. and would not start. Raining really hard but I quickly realized that if I let it sit with the ignition on, I could get it started and get down the road a bit. Could not hear LP due to the hard rain but never suspected that. Finally gave up trying to get somewhere and tried to call for a tow. No one would come out to get me when they found out what type of vehicle I was driving, except this one dude who wanted to flat tow me in. Declined offer and limped into the local "5 Star" Dodge dealer at about a 1/8 mile per start.
Sunday - popped the fuel canister to check filter. Fuel filter looked OK but the canister was only about 1/8th full!! Uh oh. Now I'm no longer suspecting filter but the LP.
Monday - Dealer finally got around to my truck about noon. Determined that it was indeed the LP but that Starr would not replace the block mounted LP and would only authorize the in-tank replacement pump. Great, except that the pump was nationally back-ordered!! Had to wait till Wednesday before new pump arrived and was installed. Dealer was very helpful and even helped me with getting a rental car (they didn't have any available) They even had someone help me get the rental back to Hertz for me.
Truck running OK now but I'm wondering about the "new" style pump. Do they have a decent track record? I replaced a couple of LP's on my '99 which was a fairly straight forward job.
OH, and just wanted to mention that I was never a big fan of those extended warranty deals, however I did get the 100k plan on this truck and I am so glad I did. It has already paid for itself in savings and now with this repair way it has saved me way over the initial cost. They are going to reimburse me for all hotel, cab, car rental and food bills for this layover. Just hope the turnaround is quick.
