Oils<gasp> again...help! trans/diff
Gents,
Just in from the Dodge dealer for parts etc, ask parts guy what I need for trans oil for the '05 2500 Diesel/6-Speed Stick(Code DEE/NVG 5600).
One parts-dood claims 90wt all around (front/rear+trans) is fine, synthetic if I want. Other parts-human states that I need ATF in the 6 Speed, 90wt hypoid in the front and Chevy Limited Slip or Friction Modifier+Hypoid for the rear. Service people run away not correcting arguing parts-people.
While I KNOW better than to start an oil thread, this one has me baffled. It appears to me that I need good old hypoid (I tend to run synthetics, and normally Mobil 1 Syth Geag Oil, but I will gladly listen to other oil recommendations, Amsoil/Redline etc, I would try anything!) Looks like one can get a filter kit too for the 5600, opines on this bit of tastyness?
Thanks much,
Andy

Was there evidence of a crack pipe in the area? Did you smell anything burning? Seriously, the differentials both need a synthetic gear oil, although limited slip additive is not mandatory since there are no clutches. I like the Red Line products, but there are many other quality brands available. Pretty sure your trans wants a synthetic ATF like ATF+4, Pennzoil multi-vehicle ATF or one of several others, but if that's wrong we'll hear about it very soon.

NO!!!!
The NV5600 uses a 5w-30 tranny fluid. The stock replacement is Pennzoil Synchromesh Fluid. For synthetics Redline MTL and Amsoil MTF can be used.

I suggest pulling out the manual and checking for the specs for oil for each of these. Then purchase the brand you want that meets the specs. I did this with mine and haven't had any problems.

Thanks for the responses!
All,
Thanks for the many responses on my oil query. Looks like I'll be going with any synthetic that I can find a locally and source out either the trans lube from Dodge or Redline (any New Hampshire/Maine oil dealers here??? Please contact me!!!!). Again, THANKS!
