Oil Smell In Cab

Well I've noticed that at idle recently I can get a wiff of burnt oil,so I did some looking around and found no leaks. I did notice that my oil pan and transmisson had a little oil on them it was comming from the blowby tube it was to short and spraying back on my trans and oil pans. I extended it like 6 inches an piece of 1/2" copper tubing works good and some heater hose.

I am still smelling the oil, I am flustered I don't know what it could be. Only when I park the truck or when I am sitting idling after I just drove it.

Because some claim the Rotella smells more than other oils... I think some refer to Rotella as Rosmella...

i've had bad luck with the Rotella smelling up the cab on 3rd gens right after an oil change. I comes out the vent tube. If you get too frustrated, there are two opions, one is run the vent tube to the back of the truck so you can't smell it driving, but you will smell it when you step outside, or run the vent tube into the air intake between the filter and the turbo.

You sure itas oil and not diesel fuel? CP3 pumps are known to seep between the halves in cold weather.Has it been cold? Look under the CP3 pump as best you can and try to run a finger under it.You can use the SEARCH function on CP3 seep/leak.Theres should be lots of info in archives.

I never had an oil smell until after I had the dealer change all the fluids for me (about 7000 miles ago). Since then I have the same smell you describe but havent noticed any problems. I was convinced it was coming from the tranny but who knows.

I've never seen anyone do that to a Cummins, but it's essentially the way the crankcase is vented on most other diesels. I think I'd be more tempted to add a vent to the valve cover, then run THAT to the air cleaner, than adapting the existing vent tube.

On edit: I guess on the 3rd gens the vent tube already comes from the valve cover. I was thinking about older trucks.

I had noticed the smell when it was new, not at all after break-in. Not a good person to ask,"I LOVE THE SMELL OF DIESEL IN THE MORNING"
