i am sure this has been covered, I just cant find it anywhere. what kinda oil are you guys running, and what is the time between changes? I have heard so many different things, I figured I would see what everyone thought.
I run Mobil Delvac 15w40 every 5,000 miles. I change my fuel filter every other oil change. I have had my oil tested for contanimants and longevity. I still had time left on the oil, but figured why chance it. I have talked to Blackstone Laboratories ( my test lab ) about synthetics and the response I recieved from them was that none of their employees use anything synthetic. That says a lot to me! There are as many choices as there are colors under the sun!
Rotella. Have run it in both my trucks, many happy miles, many oil/filter changes.
I wouldn't be apposed to running Delo if in a pinch.
Before you ask, Fleetguard is the best bet for your filter. You can get it at Genos for about $25.00 less than the dealer, same filter.

I try to stick with delvac or rotella but have used others all with good results (i send blackstone samples after every change)...I NEVER change my oil before 8000mi usually around 10k, I change the fuel filter every 10-12k. SYNTHETIC IN A DIESEL IS JUST PLAIN SILLY...unless you have an upgraded filter system and run the same oil for like 30,000 miles!!!!!

I run the Amsoil 15w-40 oil, a Fleetguard Stratapore oil filter and a NAPA Gold fuel filter. Everything gets changed every 8k miles.
Just about every oil out there now is decent stuff. It's all about whats added with the oil it's self. When you buy a quart of oil you may be lucky to get half of that bottle with actual oil, more than half of it is addatives. Oil it's self dosen't realy break down per say, the reason we change oil is to replace the addatives that are spent.
