Oil Filter pressure

The last time I changed my oil I noticed that when I spun off the filter ther was an enormous amount of pressure, enough to spew oil, any ideas on what causes this, filler cap was off, oil was cooled, never happened before

The only thing I could come up with is the coolant system somehow leaking/pressurizing the oil system. Otherwise, I'm at a loss.

the other thing it could be is the filter was majorly clogged with something. Maybe you got a bad filter. The pressure was not able to get thru the filter and won't easily go back thru the pump so it just sits there waiting for the gasket seal to crack open to relieve pressure. Do you still have that oil filter??? If so I would suggest opening it up to see if it had some kind of clog or something..

What worries me is your dealer telling you that it is "normal". Something is not right. I hope it was just your filter. Good luck and keep us posted.

It is not "Normal". The dealer tech doesn't know what he is talking about if he says it is. Are you sure that the correct type filter was installed?

I have quick-lube business and do LOTS of these truck... and I drive one...It aint normal.... I have never had that happen.
The only thing I have seen that is close is spinning the filter off too fast and the oil sitting on the top flinging out.
Another thing it might could be is pressure in the turbo ling that connects to the filter housing... if it is >> it is not good.
