No down shift

last weekend I was towing about 9000lbs and I came to a grade and it wouldnt down shift to get more power. It was like I had dead pedal. I had it smashed to the floor but only able to go about five miles per hour. Then all of the sudden it would down shift and go good for a few seconds then do the same thing. I got to the top of the hill and a flat area and it did the same thing. I got to my camping area and let it sit. I test drove it the next day with no load and it was fine. pulled my trailer home the next week end and no problems at all. I have an appointment with the dealer. but im sure it will be unable to duplicate problem. here is some info.

1- no codes
2- filled almost full tank of fuel before grade.
3- tow haul mode was on
4- tran temp light never came on
5- 20,000 miles on truck
6- Trans oil level good and had good color
7- fuel filter has 5000 miles.

Any ideas?? What is the signs of a TC going out?

Oh and I was turkey hunting for the first time and I got a nice one about a mile away from where I got my bear.
