newbie to dodge

hello every one, just got a 2007 with a 5.9, auto 4x4, quad sb, I traded my beloved 7.3, she was a good truck and I hated to see her go. Well I trvel a lot for work being a pipewelder, and on the road I"ve saw a lot of dodges pulling some tremendous weight, well the kiker was coming from louisville ky to ind, a farmer with a trailermay be 30ft trailer full of cows and a dually ran up beside me,we were going up a steep grade mind you, he had a glump of chew in his mouth, bibs on , looked over at me and gave me a wave, and past me, and pulles away like there was no tomorrow, well that what made me a believer, questions, and their will be more, filters whats the best, oiland fuel, whats the best for these trucks?dino? rotella? I"ll pull a 345er, do I need a bigger trans cooler, are these trucks full time 4x4? can you get locking hub kits?, well thats all for now, getting ready for 1st good trip to indiana, what speeds to maintain to break in. thanks and ready for a long freindship with ya"ll, located near raleigh, nc

Welcome to DTR!

There is no "break in" on the engines. Just start pulling. You should wait until after the first 1000 miles for the rear differential gears though.

In fact that is the best way to "break in" a Cummins is to pull a heavy load up the tallest hill you can find.

Any 15w40 dino diesel oil is fine. You can do a search on oil war threads and read for days.

I use Fleetguard oil filters and fuel filters from a Cummins big rig parts dealer. I've never seen tranny temps hot enough to warrant an additional cooler, but I don't pull real heavy in hilly areas. Actually, for a Cummins, I don't pull heavy at all. 17,000 gross is about the heaviest. Enjoy your truck.

Welcome! I'll tackle a couple of your ?'s.
It is not full time 4x4. It is 2x4 until you turn the little **** to 4x4. However, the hubs are locked already and turn everything all the time even in 4x2. There are 2 companies I know of-- DynaTrac being one--- that sells locking hub conversion kits.
If you are towing heavy, I strongly recommend gauges, especially tranny temp and egt. You do not need an aux. tranny cooler for most purposes. I've towed as much as 12k in 100*+ heat up long hills and stayed at 200* tops. BUT-- I have a torque converter lock-up switch too. Search for the thread here on that subject and make that mod. It is a good one to have when towing.
Good Luck and Welcome again.
