New TSB?

There has been a lot of talk about the TSB that DC is supposed to be coming out with to improve mileage. There is a thread over on TDR saying that this long awaited TSB is out now. 18-037-04 is the number. Can anyone verify this? I can't get to the dealership for a few days to check for myself.

I just checked on AllData.com and they don't list it for the 2003 or 2004 trucks. That doesn't mean it's not true, they may not have updated yet.

I would be interested to know if it's actually out and if so, whether people have actually found it helps or not. When Ford did the reflash for the PS 6.0 turned out to be a real disaster. Granted, this is Cummins not Ford, but seeing as I'm happy with my truck, I'll be wary until I hear confirmed good reports.

I just checked dealer connect and it is there. Flash for fuel economy, white smoke on startup, improved overhead mpg accuracy.

Ok, so who's going to be the first one on the block to get it?

It's the same TSB that's been out for a while for the white smoke on start problem. I've read on the other site that there is "supposed" to be another TSB coming out next month that's "supposed" to address the low fuel mileage problem that most of us have.

I was just on TDR and it looks like the TSB 18-007-04 is the one out in February 2004 for white smoke.

It appears that the TSB 18-037-04 is new and related to milage also, just reading posts from today on owner that had the TSB 18-0370-04 done today.

Hope it is a new TSB for milage issues, I will call my Service Manager Monday and find out what he knows.

I just called my local dealer. Yes they have the Flash TSB 18-037-04 available. Mine does put out white smoke on occasion when cold, and will smoke pretty good from 2500-3000 rpm under no load. Funny thing is he sounded like he was trying to talk me out of it. He claims the flash will detune engine to not to over fuel and thus reduce horsepower & torque. "If you want the power it was designed for don't get the flash, If you want better economy and less power get the flash" is what he claims. Warning he says if you get the new flash there is no way to go back.

I'm not sure I belive Cummins would be trying to take us back in HP and Torque do you?

I been puttin off takin my ride in for the door panel buzz and a squeak in the rear end, I hearby nominate myself to be the guinea pig. I've been getting about middle of the road (for a 600) mileage, we'll see if it does any good or not. As a side note, I've got one of the 600's that smokes like a champ when you get into it, and will actually keep up a light haze even after the turbo is spooled up.

Make sure to give us details on how your vehicle behaves before and after, I'd be very interested to hear, and I'm sure the rest of the people on the list will too.

Just wondering , how many with 600s that puff black smoke have had the tsb 18-007-04 ? I had this reflash with less than 1000 miles to try to fix an engine miss. It did not work of cource because I had bad injectors . After getting 6 new injectors at 2200 miles , it has had black smoke . Just wondering if that reflash is what caused the black smoke . Up until the new injectors were installed , I had white smoke with a miss .

Mine doesn't puff black smoke, just has the white smoke on startup and that's it. As far as I know it hasn't had the TSB 18-007-04, unless the dealer installed it prior to me picking it up 2 weeks ago.

This does make sense, actually. Think about it.

I have an early build (Jan 04) 600, that really has none of these issues, however, I picked it up on March 31st, AFTER real cold weather was over here. It never had the original TSB.

I am waiting to see what it does here this winter. Then I'll think about getting it flashed.
