Good luck
p.s. you might want to find out when the 6.7's are coming out!!

I am scared of first year production vehicles. I would want to wait a year or so before I did that, so they could work the bugs out.

Check autotrader.com and see what trucks like yours are going for. You might find dealers selling similar trucks for $24-25K.

I looked for an 03 or 04 before buying my 05 new. Unless they had really high miles, their prices weren't much less than what I paid. Some were even more. One dealer locally had an 04 that only had 100 miles on it so I called them to get some info on it. Truck was similar to my 05, except it was an auto. The truck had the radio stolen out of it during transit to the dealership when it was new. Dealer refused shipment so it was sent back, repaired then resold to this dealer Jan of 05. They wanted 34K for it. I'm curious what the dealer paid for this damaged 1 year old truck.

So if the dealer offered me 20,000 for my 01 would you take it or go through the hassle of selling privately?

I have no idea what they're going for. I could check my area, but that could be different from your area by thousands. I'd check autotrader.com, and other sources to see what trucks like your 01 are going for in your area. If it's running fine and has no major problems, I bet you'd do better selling it privately.

I sold my 95 ram 1500 on autotrader (boy, my posts are starting to sound like I work for them ) and it wasn't a hassle. If you bought it new, i.e. know the trucks history, and have all the reciepts, here's another reason to sell it yourself.

here is what NADA says the truck I want is worth.

Your Build Invoice MSRP
Base $34,780 $39,680
Options $1,202 $1,365
Destination $900 $900
Total $36,882 $41,945

how much does it cost to become farm bureau member?

OK, $42K invoice. If the employee price is still in effect, I think that's ~ 85% of MSRP (42,000x.85) which brings it to 35,700. I looked up Lehi for it's zip code and according to Edmunds, there's a $1500 rebate for the 84043 area. (35,700 - 1500) brings us to 34,200. Being a farm bureau (memberships cost varies by state. It was $50 per year here in MA) for atleast 30 days, will give you $500 off. Now we're down to 33,700. That's a hair over 80% of MSRP. Without the farm bureau $500, that's just under 82%.

Since it's too late to order, if you buy, you'll have to take what's already built. If I were you, and found a truck I'd consider, I'd offer 77-78% of it's MSRP. Since you're not a farm bureau member, you might have to consider a bit higher, unless you find a dealer that really needs another sale to make a quota.

so 42,000-77%=32340
I think that is a pretty good price. If they would give me 20,000 for my truck I would have 10,000 down and would only have to take the loan for 22340+ tax and lics fees.

Good luck on the trade in! They are brutal when it comes to those trades. Expect perhaps $16-17k if that. I would even venture to say $15k. I am hoping you get what you hope to get, have a realistic outlook though when you walk in that door! Just my $.02!
