New Torque Converter?

Ok so transmission is pretty well done and im about to order the Suncoast rebuild kit. I spoke with the rep and he told me that I would be wasting my money to rebuild my 48RE without replacing the valve body ($600-ish) and installing a triple disc torque converter ($1325-ish). Now, I get that replacing the torque converter would be ideal and a new higher pressure valve body would be great too but, is it absolutely a must? If my torque converter and valve body aren't trashed do I really need to replace them? Im needing to get this project going and need some advice on what you guys have done. He told me I would be back into it in a few months if I didnt go ahead and replace them because chances are the tranny problems have probably gotten into the converter. Keep in mind he is in the SALES department... Ant help is appreciated.

yeah they kinda go hand in hand, the valvebody is the brains of the trans and can be set up for different shifts,TC lock and more.At that point an already built tranny might be cheaper and cut down on the down time.Just suggestions.

Any honest trans man will tell you that the stock tc is TRASH even when it is new. If your trans needs to rebuilt you are wasting your money if you don't change tc..

Best money you will ever spend will be on the VB and TC. It will make your truck a completly new animal. Yes, the factory TC is junk right out the box.

Spooler,
Just got mine back from a rebuild. Went to a triple disk TQ, it is far superior to the single BD I had put in a few years ago. That and a good valve body are a must for these trans. You won't regret!

Appreciate the advice guys. I took it to heart. Dropped some cash on it today. Placed the order with Suncoast for the Extreme duty rebuild kit, new valve body, and triple disc TC. Including core charges I dropped $3500. I should get about 800 back in core charges. Hopefully she will be back to pullin like a champ. Anything else I should go ahead and replace while Im at it? Thanks again for the help. I'll post the results asap, if I can pay my internet bill this month...

So, another update. Suncoast called and said that the triple disc TC was going to be delayed a few weeks. So, ordered the Banks low stall TC. Its a dual disc instead of a triple but I think that'll be fine for what I do. Locks up at 1600RPM so I should notice a good increase in take off while under a load. I went ahead and ordered the flex plate too. This whole thing is getting pricey but Im hoping when its said and done I'll have a strong tranny.

Just wondering what made you decide to go with suncoast over the others?

Same question. And if you are ordering parts, who will be doing the work?
