New batteries installation procedure
New batteries installation procedure
Maybe this is a stupid question, but here goes ...
I'm planning to purchase 2 new Kirkland Signature #12866 batteries at Costco. Costco does not install - so I must.
Normally, I would simply disconnect each battery, remove each battery and then install/connect the new batteries. Simple enough.
But I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the battery install should be done some way such that power is never lost to the electrical system ???
Is this true? If so, what is the correct procedure?
Thx, Rob

It's always a good idea to clean, inspect, replace battery accessory items: cables, ties, fasteners, blankets, mounts, etc.
Think of the entire system you are addressing: The primary charging system.
Most guys get caught up in replacing component-by-component, and it's a strategy failure (especially on items like the cooling system). Go through it all, make it like new where it needs it, but the COMPLETE inspection is gold. (I'd at least remove all batt cable terminations, clean/grease, etc.)

The batteries are wired in parallel. If you replace them one at a time, you won't lose radio and clock settings, or seat position settings or anything like that. If you take both of them out first, and THEN put the new batteries in, you will lose the clock and radio setting, etc.

I was surprised the other day when I installed a GDP intake air horn on my truck. I wrote down all of my radio presets and everything before disconnecting both batteries before the install.
When I got back in my presets were still there and I had the batteries disconnected for at least 6 hours.
