The new automatic trans

I am looking at buying a new 04.5 3500 4x4 with a auto trans, but is this trans any better than the old 47re. My current truck is a 02 5 speed, would I be better off getting this new truck as a 6 speed. I do notice that this new auto has a shudder when leaving from a stop, just like my 01 auto did and I had a lot of trouble with that truck and traded it for the 02 manual.

If you don't love automatics go with the 6-speed.
I ATS'd my auto 2 years ago, and I can't imagine going back to rowing through the gears like I did before I got this truck.

I got the auto and it's fine. But- when I found out the 6 speed launches with zero throttle- even under heavy loads on a hill, I wish I had the 6 speed!

I got the auto because I drive in DC traffic everyday. If I didn't, I would have gotten a 6 spd. I had trans problems with my 98 auto and I'm having some minor issues with my current one which is a 47RE.

All, I can say is if you're having any doubts, follow your instincts...

My first 03 had the 6 shooter and this one has the 48RE. I like them both. If you don't mind shifitng get the 6 shooter. You'll have peace of mind. If shifting gets old, go for the auto.

I always buy off the lot. So if they have a manual thats what I get. If not, then the auto. Matters not to me.
