Need quick advice.555 or 600??

I visited my dealer today and test drove a 600,but they also have a new 555 and I heard the 555 is better on fuel is this true??

I may be getting one of these trucks if the price is right.
I can get the 555 for 34,117 out the door,it is a SL model, has AC tilt and cruise and a rubber floor which I like. And it is 4x4..

Quick replies needed

Thank you

555 or 600

I'd get the 555 if I were you. Had 'em both. Sorry I made the move to the 600. Too many problems not worked out yet. It may yet turn out to be ok but a lot of trips to the dealer.

I believe there were some minor changes in the 600 tranny. It definitly has a different ECM. Knowing what I know now, (which isn't everything), I'd go with the 555.

I know they're both 48re for the 555 or 600. Whether they made minor upgrades to the 600,...I haven't seen anything on it.

Get the 555...........check the turbo diesel register forum also...there are more unhappy 600 owners there. I find it hard to believe there could be such a big difference in mileage between 2 600's. I would do a dearch for 555 vs 600 and see what the owners are saying what they would do next time. I made a huge mistake getting a 600 but didn't even know it.

Get whatever truck suits your needs/money the best. I wouldn't be worried which version of the engine it has. You're buying it for the Cummins engine which has already been proven. My 600 has almost 5000 miles on it and it's doing great.

The newer autos might be able to take an exhaust brake. There is a good thread on the TDR about this. Carlton Bale is a Cummins engineer and has been keeping people up to date. There were changes, the question is if they are enough.

Take whatever invoice is, subtract 2%, take off the rebates, that's what you should pay. There is a dealer in St Louis who sells for 2% off invoice plus any incentives. You can calc your invoice price at www.kbb.com or www.costcoauto.com

Dave,
I know very little about the 555 system and even less about the 2nd gen but as understand it, the 3rd gen does not have an "injection" pump. They have three pumps: (1.) low pressure (~20psi) lift, (2.) medium pressure (~180 psi) pump and (3.) a high pressure (~23,000 psi) pump. The hig pressure fuel is routed to a single fuel manifold (common rail) that continualy provides high pressure fuel to all six injectors. The injectors are electrically opened and closed to supply the high pressure fuel to the cylinders. The black boxes fool the ECM into varying the actual pressure in the High Pressure Common Rail and/or vary the timing of the electrical signals to the injectors.
Hope that helps.

Get the 555.... No third injection for emissions and no CAT!

You should be able to get minimum... invoice price minus $2500 rebate

I also got a free bedliner and a fre tonneau cover.

Tell them the 555 is going to be sitting on the lot for a long time cause everybody wants the 600. Get that price down!!!!!
