Need help identifying a 48RE

We recently lost the transmission in our work truck. Although I've turned many wrenches on many different vehicles, I'm a relative novice when it comes to automatic transmissions.

Can anyone on the board tell us how to identify a stock 48RE: without an internal inspection?

We have a line on a "low mileage stock 48RE" to take parts from, but we've been informed that many of the internal parts in this particular transmission are subject to pilfering. In other words, there are folks out there that would see some of the 48RE internals as a valuable commodity. And considering the fact that the 47RE and the 48RE core are largely compatible, I'd like to make sure that we're not getting some kind of a hybrid 48RE for our hard earned money.

We put food on the table with our truck, so your thoughts on how we might go about an inspection would be greatly appreciated.

If the converter is out, the pump will have a teflon sealing ring on the end of the stator. It should also have alot bigger of an output seal.
