Moog upper ball joint question

Just finishing up replacing all ball joints, tie rods/ends, universal joints, etc. Had one question though. Bought the Moog adjustable uppers (K7448) and where do you set these at off the bat? Going for an alignment right after I'm done but will they be able to reset these if I set them wrong? Just can't see how unless they loosen upper and lower joints again?

i just set mine as straight as i could until i got to the alignment shop the next day. my steering was still way off- but the alignment guy told me my truck was the easies truck he has aligned in 17 years! only took him 20 minutes to do the alignment-and it is perfect!

Thanks for the info! Set them towards the back and alignment shop is only a mile away so I guess he'll straighten it out!

The upper Moog adjustables are offest, so is there a particular direction I should face the offset side when installing. Truck is tore down right now and I will be putting in the new joints after work.

IE..offset side facing out, or forward, or back?

I just put them on and an rotated the ball joint (with the offset facing forward) with a level on the hub/bearing to try to get them as vertically strait as possible......and then tightened them down. I must have done a decent job because they were withing spec when I got it aligned......I only did one side though.

wait, I thought ball joints needed to be done at the shop, something about a press...you can do them on your own? I need to do balljoints, tie rods and u joints, can I do it all on my own?

sorry to hijack.

yes you can do it. it is next to impossible without a ball joint press though. Get your hands on one and you should be able to knock them out in a day.

The critical aspect for short run driving to the alignment shop is the toe. If the toe is out, you'll scrub the tires so fast you'll need a fresh set once you get to the alignment shop.

Toe does not need to be exact, just drivable. My neighbor and I set my VW about equal, or zero, with a tape measure.
