Mileage on '04.5 4X4
3rd week in my new truck and loving it! When I bought my ’93 Dodge Diesel I loved it so much that I swore it would be the last truck I ever bought. Oh well, just couldn’t resist the new 325/600. I hung onto the old one for a couple of weeks after getting the new truck, but didn’t want to drive it anymore so it’s gone now (funny thing is that the wife misses the old truck, says the new one is too big).
I installed a “Roll-N-Lock” bed cover and picked up 2-3 mpg around town, but only about 1-mpg hwy. K&N filter isn’t available yet. I don’t want to void my warranty but I’m looking for a little better mileage. Any suggestions?

Friend of mine also a member on a diesel board....we just put a AFE intake on his 04 600. Makes the turbo lil louder and quicker throttle response lil quicker spool up. looks really nice too. I will inform you if this is actually worht it.
a good number of people are having mileage issues with the new 600. How many miles do you have on it now? Might want to trying waiting till you break it in a bit more before you do anything to attempt to improve the mileage.

On my 01, I noticed an increase in mileage after about 10,000 km, then a really noticeable increase just after 20,000 km. it seems to have steadied at a given range since about 50,000.
Thanks, the old Dodge got 18 mpg regularly and best was 24 mpg. I'm now getting 12-15 mpg. Guess I am a little spoiled. I’ve heard the mileage improves with time, guess I better get out and rack up some miles.
Mines in the 12-15 range as well, I'm not too upset as this is still better than any gasser I've ever owned and guaranteed it will out tow any gasser I've owned. I also don't exactly drive it nice all the time (tend to occasionally have a lead foot). I haven't been able to understand all the different variations of mileage reports yet. Sometimes it appears that the earlier build dates are getting worse than the newer ones but then you'll also hear of newer build dates getting the lower numbers we're seeing also? So is there really a problem or is it just varied to different driving styles and different diesel stations?

I just happened to buy one on saturday. Salesman came right out and told me this truck wouldnt get the same mileage as my 99. He told me that i should expect anywhere form 16-18 though. and after a weekend of well, beatin her haha shes up to 16.3 from 14.7 So i think im doing ok
Towing something really helped this one! We have about a 9000lb travel trailer and we have put about 2000 miles on the truck towing the trailer. This brought the milage up about 2 mpg highway. I don't know about city milage though.
Tow something! Besides, it's fun to feel all that power!

HighTen - you're right on!!! I have a 555, but I towed a horse trailer the last two weekends. It looks like my mileage went up by 2 MPG. If I keep towing I'll have to stop at the Flying J and siphon gas back into their tanks to keep from overflowing
I have a 04.5 and just did a manual calculation of milage on a 100 mi round trip. I got 21 mpg. The computer was indicating slightly less. I was careful to keep my speeds below 70 and use the cruise whenever possible. Normally it is indicating between 15 and 19.

I'll third that. I swear the motor feels smoother too. Probably in my head, but they do say these trucks need some work to do to stay happy.

About a month ago I towed my new travel trailer almost 700 miles and since then my mileage has been up 2 or more MPG. Before the tow I raised the pressure in my tires to the max and have left it there. I was attributing the increased mileage to the air pressure but maybe towing the trailer had something to do with it. At 60 on level ground the overhead will show 20+ and it is usually lower than calculated. My last trip I calculated almost 18 MPG driving 70 and the overhead showed 16.9 MPG.
My MPG is SICK!! About 13-14 around town, 16 at freeway speeds (65). What I don't understand is getting 12.5 MPG when towing with a GCW of 19,640#. I have a 3.73 rearend and the 48RE. The towing MPG is great, the empty MPG sucks. I sure hpe it gets better.

Just filled up and calculated (by hand) my mileage at 12.75. Based on the overhead I see an increase (14-18 mpg) in the morning when the temps in the 80’s and a decrease (11-13) in the afternoon when the temps are 110°+.
