Looking at 05, Have questions

I test drove and plan on buying a 05 QC Shortbed 4wd, auto. 59,xxx miles. It is super clean. Black with silver bottom, Big Horn Edition, LineX, leather, Sony CD Sat radio, MP3 player, remote start/alarm,
I'm not sure of a few things:
It has big red rubber/poly things on top of the front coil springs. Are they factory? Leveling?
It seems to hunt for the gears a lot. You step on pedal and normally most autos go: ....................shift.....................shif t....................shift............etc

This goes:
..................shift...shift..shift............ .......shift..shift.....................shift...et c

Is this normal for these, it seems to work fine, has Plenty of power.

Only other mod it has is 5 inch from cat back, but the inside of the tail pipe is REALLY sooty. Only smokes just lightly at start up, after sitting for a while.

How do I tell if it has been "Chipped"/turned up. Where do you plug the chips into?
No codes came up with key thing, only said done.

What else to look for?

99% sure I'll own it by the end of week, asking 26,990 they came down to 24,550 Im shooting for 22,500
Thanks

The OEM shift programming on the 47/48RE sucks - Dodge is infamous for it.

Sounds like it has a leveling kit on it.

Check it for a plastic charge air cooler.

Check the condition of the rail pressure harness connector under the hood to see if it's been apart.

You didn't mention any gauges?

Inspect the ECM port under the dash to see if the pins show insertion wear.

What do the rotors look like?
Heavy braking often follows heavy acceleration.

Is the compressor housing discolored?

Closer to $20K would be better...

Congratulations!

I thought it was a leveling kit. Do i really need it?
It has the Metal Air Cooler,
Anything to do for the shifting?
Rail Pressure Harness Connector? Is that next to the Flux Capacitor???
Compressor Housing on the turbo? Right? I'll look.
I'm pretty green when it comes to anything other than my 12 valve.
Breaks, I'll look at that also.
Is the ECM port Like the OBDII port on my other vehicals?

Ive read several threads on 05s and their issues, like AC compressor wire.
This truck will probably remain mostly stock, as the girlfriend/wife is going to use it to pull horse trailer.
Maybe Smarty Jr and mild trans upgrades, Later.

Have any of you ran into problems with the truck sitting too high to hook up to a Goose neck trailer? Or the Gooseneck part crushing the top of bed rails on uneven ground?

Thanks, cant wait to drive it home. Waiting for sales man to call me back with their new offer.

I've been looking at the same year truck here in the Pittsburgh Pa area. Prices are all over the place. Any where from 25,900 to 30,000. I have not seen 1 under 25,000 that had decent miles or wasn't beat to h*** and back.

05 is great

Roughstock, That sounds like a good one. I really like my 05 SLT. Mine dosn't have leather, but I like the dash much better in the 05 than the 06 & 07.
Mine's a shortbed quad, white, with the grey bottom, supposedly 'off road' edition, has a decal, and 4.10.
Yeah that shift pattern sounds squirrelly. Mine shifts quickly, deliberate and sometimes with a little kick.
I agree with devilztower, if you can get one for 21K-22K, that isn't rode hard and put up wet, thats a deal.

I bought mine back last October, when Diesel was $2.35, and he was closer 29k, but it only had 9300 miles. Sold my 96 Ram and the rest is history. I really really like that CTD. It would run circles around my old truck.
I just can't afford to drive it anymore. Diesel in SWVA $3.85

I guess I'll have to check which gears it has, I'm hoping 3.73.
I'll go back and do the key trick for codes.
It is super clean, it does have a brake controller and bumper hitch, but not gooseneck/5th wheel.
It did seem to turn over longer than my 12 valve when starting. is that normal?

my 99 starts in the first second the key is turned,, im new to my 05, but it takes a couple cranks for it to get going, i think it needs to build rail pressure for the injectors to fire.

Girlfriend/wife.........that means I've got one of each...........NO, just kidding.
We're not married, we've been together for over 5 years, bought house together, all that stuff, just not in a hurry to get married.

This salesman at the dealership is not a good salesman. Maybe its is some sort of salesman mind control game(to get me to buy the truck), but he won't call me back. I've had to call him everyday for the last 4 days, even after he says he will call be back with an answer to my questions.
I told him to cut the act and get me the bottom dollar if he wanted to sell a truck. Still no answer, If no call by noon, I'm going to owner, to see if he wants to sell a truck today.

Go get it flashed, it will fire instantly after that...

The leveling kit will not affect the ball height on the gooseneck, as it only raises the front, but the point over the axle stays the same. The bed in front of the axle raises slightly, and the bed behind the axle lowers slightly.

OK, this is border line illegal. I went down there today to seal the deal.
Truck listed for 26,995. He went down to 24,995, he said that was as low as he could go without authorization from his boss, I said go get "authorized" and I offered 24,000 today and said I would put my name on it. HE came back after checking with his boss and said that he made a MISTAKE and he could only offer me 25,800. WHAT!!!! He explained that he went too low and his boss was mad at him now. So he wanted me to buy it for that price. I was upset, I said 24 or Im gone. Well here i sit, with no truck. Talk about a load.
IS that even legal. We even had 24,990 on paper, not a purchase agreement, just on a note pad, that he and I were figuring payments etc. I'm calling the dealership owner tomorrow, if the salesman doesn't call first. This guy is a flake. Thanks for all your help.
PS Ive already test drove 2 other CTD, since leaving his lot.
