Long cranking

Just a question for you guys and gals.
About a month ago I did a trip down the highway
And since then my truck cranks awhile before it will start.
I changed the fuel filter about two weeks ago
I put in a AFE high flow 3micron filter. I've been using those since I bought it two years ago. For about four days after the new filter the truck started great!! Once it's running it runs great!! No smoke no noises nothing. I'm just wondering if someone has any?? It's a '06 CTD. All stock except intake and exhaust. Oh and I did clean air filter about two weeks ago also. Thanks in advance for any ideas!!

Hi, this question has been discussed a lot of late. I invite you to use the search function and find some of those threads in both this section and the 3rd gen high performance section.

The short answer is worn injectors (excessive leakback) or pump or a slight leak somewhere.

Just so you are aware, The AFE D2 is not a fuel/water separator as per AFE. Given that information, this filter being that it is a filter only, is not a viable option for the CTD's as it does not meet O/E specifications. You are likely looking at new injectors.

I currently use the Baldwin PF7977 which is the best you can currently purchase for the OE canister at 5um.

I was also shocked at the price for injectors , stanardine fuel treatment is cheap compared to injectors rebuilt or new ,and the injector pump ! protecting that to is very important . as these are in the 2 k range mine starts in 3 to 4 sec i timed it .
