Lift pump trouble

Has anyone done the in tank pump retrofit yet? My 03 had 5 pumps fail and now dodge put the in tank setup in. Any word on reliability of repair?

I read that the 05 comes with the in-tank setup, and there don't seem to be problems. I don't know about the retrofit. I still have my original, but only 35000km. 5 pumps is horrible. How many km does your truck have, where do you usually fill, and do you use a conditioner?(Just wondering how much longer until mine goes, or if the Howes conditioner, etc. is making a difference??)

My truck has 150K. I fill at a Petro Canada cardlock. The same one all our big rigs fill at. I have used a different conditioner after each failure. Kleen-flo, Howe's, Tranny fluid, none of which seemed to make a difference. Howe's made it idle smoother, though. Not just me. Just change the pump every 2nd oil change and you should be safe.

When your lift pump failed did your truck die on the spot or did it run poorly? What are the symptoms?

If you are driving it will lose rpm, recover once or twice then just shut off completely. One of my pumps gave me about a weeks notice by idling rough in gear, but smoothing out in neutral. The others were immediate.

That is exactly what my truck did the other day, lost rpm then recovered, did that for a couple miles then died. It restarted though and has ran fine ever since. Its getting checked at the dealership today.

mine started making a sound similar to a barbers razer and the the truck ran terrible.took it into the dealer and they checked the lp and found the voltage was not right in it.parts were ordered and i now have the in tank pump which seems to work a whole lot better.the old one was so loud you could here it over the engine from 10-15 feet away from the truck

why has it taken Dodge nearly 5 years to equip these trucks w/ a lift pump that works???

Mine hiccuped earlier today. I really hoped when I dropped the cash for a brand new 3rd gen Id leave the stupid LP problems behind.

So all 04.5's have these pumps? I bought mine last August so I guess that makes it an early 600.......

It's only been in the tank a little while. We're not sure if it's going to work or not, but it sure makes alot more sense putting it in the tank. Most of those little pumps push better than they pull.

Our EMS Ram which was on its fourth lift pump in 80K is having the in-tank retrofit done today. Time will tell if the in-tank pump is the solution to the problem. I guess I am a bit skeptical when it comes to DC's solutions. I am thinking of going to an aftermarket solution for my own such as Scotty's kit when he comes up with a plug and play. And if DC's solution doesn't work for the EMS Ram then we will be going aftermarket there as well. We can't afford the breakdowns anymore.

my lift pump finally went a few days ago.....luckily i had a mechanic friend mention to me that if it ever happened to use a small wrench and tap the pump lighlty a few times with the key off and it would likely run long enough to get me out of trouble..well sure enough i had to do it 4 times but i got out of the bush and to a dealer..now have the new in tank setup..wish i could give more input on longevity but i thought that tidbit about tapping the pump might save somoene else from a long hike and a miserable tow

Dealer replaced mine with in tank set up as well. Said it did not set any codes but felt more than sure it was about to die completely.

well the whole tapping thing has to do with freeing up the brushes so they can make contanct inside the pump, so i wasnt taking any chances and i tapped it every where i could reach, i was suprised to hear that these pumps even have brushes but that explains the reliability thing
