LASER temp gun and low fuel economy 04.5

Problem?

I happened to buy a new laser temp gun guage (point and shoot) by Fluke. I pulled into the drive way and pop the hood. Being careful to shoot the exhaust manifold at the same spot on each port..I notice that the second to last cylinder closest to the firewall is substantially higher.. all of the them were between 275'F and 350'F...this one was 540'F

I know this isnt as accurate as individual EGT probes...but I'm wondering if maybe the reason for poor economy is that this one injector may be dumping more fuel.

Opinions? I know the dealers have gotten me nowhere ..I've been waiting for the local rep to come to town for 6months. I guess what chaps me more is one gentleman with the 06 is getting substantially higher economy with only a couple thousand miles on it.

BACKGROUND:
Auto HO W/ 4wd srw 373's and about 24k on it. Its been to three dealer 4 times for low fuel economy (IMO)and have had one injector replaced. I drive around town unloaded most of the time. I take good care of it and romp on it once in a while to make sure its cleaned up..I have used both stanadyne and PS to keep the injectors cleaned (not at the same time). Fuel filters changed every 9k miles and I hand calculate. My truck had never gotten over 12.25 to 13.65in town and highway no better than 14.2 to 15.5 unloaded at 65. I have had the update done for white smoke and mileage. I do have a afe drop in filter and the plastic intake tube. All else is - and has been - stock ( I have the extended warranty)

Thanks! bc3

How about swapping injectors of the hottest and coldest cylinders? If the high temperature follows the injector, you have a pretty solid warranty claim.

I'd repeat the same starting from cold. The cylinders farther away fromt the intake horn tend to run a little hotter. I forget which cylinder is normally the hottest but someone hopefully will chime in. Swapping the injectors as mentioned would be one indication. Is your lube oil level on the dip stick growing? Good luck. ks

Soweone on here said the reason for warmer temps back there is because of the way the coolant runs back there. Ah what the hell do I know. I just drive um.

That's a hell of a difference. I vote for bad injector on that cylinder. I think I'll try that on my '06 with an apparent injector clatter.

so mine has been a little louder lately and I ran straight outside with me temp gun after reading this. Sitting there idling, all six of mine were within 20degrees of each other so I feel better.
