Knock in engine

Man I had always been a Chevy guy but just had to have a Cummins.I thought it was a little loud and I have now compared it to a couple other trucks and mine has a loud knock from the front engine area and it sounds low in the engine. The knock is about 2x a second at an idle.
I have around 12,000 miles on it and am getting ready for the third oil change and I run it mixed easy and hard. When I do run it easy I always scream it from time to time just to blow it out a bit.I also pull 7,000 at times and do not show it any mercy.
Any thoughts guys?
I sure dont want anyone pulling my engine apart on an 07 truck.
Thanks.

Phil

Spray a shot of WD-40/pent. oil on the inside/outside of belt and see if it goes away. In the cold and salty conditions your belt will get a buildup of salt along with cracking of the belt and make some funny noises like this.

Get a stethoscope or at least a length of pipe and see if you can isolate where it is. BE CAREFUL AROUND MOVING PARTS.

2X a second is way off a crank/rod knock (750rpm/60secs=12 or so) if that is your concern.

At least you have full warranty.

The infamous 5.9 "knock" I have read all that I can on 3 forums about the knock, a lot of people have it, however, no one knows the cause or the cure. I am not going to worry much.

Some people claim switching to Mobil Delvac 1300 15w40 will cut the noise down. Could also be knocking of the gear that drives the injection pump, normal backlash noise and a lot of engines have it. I read about loosening the gear on the pump shaft and rotating the pump a bit to change the way the pump interacts with the power pulses of the engine. This is done by trial and error and can work well.
