FYI.
Im sure most of you know this trick about increasing idle but it was new to me. Just thought I would pass it on for those who didn't know.

Brought my truck to dealer for an inspection on oil leak and they programmed to have the idle increased to about 1100 rpms in park to warmed the engine up. To set (Park), turn on cruise control and depress "set". You can depress cruise off or the brake and idle will return to normal idle. As we all know, should not let the engine idle for long periods of time. He stated to use this "feature" when parked and idled for a long time like the truckers do.

It is a really nice feature to have. You can use the cruise control buttons to idle it up from 1100 to about 1500 rpms.

By bumping it up you avoid any problems with cylinder wash when idling for any length of time. Helps engine warm up when cold too.

 

Nice - is this feature available on those with manual trannys?

 

Unless they have changed something im not aware of, the high idle feature is only available on automatic tranny trucks.

 

As long as you have the correct version in the ECU it will work for the manuals also. You need to ground pin 21 on the ECU B connector and have it enabled with a DRB scan tool, or, there is a clutch switch available for the 06 manual trucks that can be retroed to the older ones.

 

It worked well when I had to sleep in my truck in February all night because I had too much to drink and had no way to get home safely as my DD went home with a gal at the party.

 

LOL, I took a long road trip and didnt want to sleep in a hotel during the drive so I just pulled over and set the idle to 1200 and passed out.

 

Wanted to get it done, but one dealer was not up front on possible charges, and another wanted $80 something for it, since mine is a 2005 and the TSB reads up to the 2004 model year.

If the TSB gets changed and it's free I'd like to have it done for next winter.
