How do you change the fuel filter?
Re:How do you change the fuel filter?
Its not too hard to do, but there is one little trick I learned that helps a bunch... put the filter on the lid before trying to install!

heres how I did mine last weekend.

To remove:

get a wrench and socket to remove the lid. My filter did not come out with the lid. remove filter and remove old O-ring from lid. Clean off water in fuel sensor with a rag.

To re-install:

Put some diesel fuel on the new O-ring and install on lid. Put new filter on lid, make sure the filter is flush on lid surface or within the clips on the lid (If you put the filter in the canister then try to install the lid it is a major PITA to get started). Place the lid and new filter in the canister and tighten it up. It helps to make a note where the threads start on the lid and canister. Becareful not to cross thread them!

Turn key on and off a few times to fill the canister back up with fuel.

Theres not really much more to it than that. I was a little scared to do it the first time because I thought I might mess something up. But, IMO if you just take your time its no big deal

Mine have always come out still attached to the lid.

You need a six point 1-1/8" socket to get the lid off.

I always open the drain valve to drain the housing, don't forget to close it before you start to cycle the lift pump.
Re:How do you change the fuel filter?

is 10K miles too early?
[/quote]
10K is just perfect, IMHO.
If you do the 5,000 mile oil change, then the filter gets changed every other oil change.
Easy to remember that way
On another note, be careful not to drop the filter housing lid,
it tends to break off the little fingers that hold the filter. :
