how do I use high idle
Ok,
Propably a stupid question someone has already asked before but bear with me. My 05' 6-sp (g56) has high idle, it will come on by itself if its below around 32 degrees after it idles for about one minute. Is this the same feature you all are talking about? I tried to get mine to come on by using the cruise method but did not work. So mine must not be the same feature ya'll are talking about?
Thanks for your patience,
Bill

On my truck, the following procedure works:
1 - Hit the following cruise control buttons:
- Press the "Resume", then "On", and finally the "Set" button.
2- At this point it will jump up to 1,100 rpms. Mine will not drop, but I can increase by hitting the "Accelerate" button.

I believe your talking about the 3rd injector pulse. Something completly different.
Well, I went down to the Cummins dealer today and picked up an ECM connector pin, put it on, instructions above followed, except I did not add an extra nut, just put the ground under the one that was there. I programmed the computer with the Predator, and enabled the idle up feature. Followed all instructions and tried to enable it. It didn't work. I even went back to the factory tune, then reinstalled the performance with the idle up enabled. I checked the wire for ground with a multi meter, and it is fine. I'm dumbfounded. Any ideas?
Well, the only dealer in this area that is worth a darn is in El Paso, 40 miles away. I'll see if i can get it in. It has been missing when its cold as well, we'll see how that goes. I won't let the morons at the dealership here in town touch it.
Well I went out and tried all the combos you guys posted on both the 06's and neither one of them would do it. My truck does go into high idle when i sit after plowing and on cold early mornings.
The 03's can high idle as well. The build date dosen't matter. You just have to have the dealer enable like mentioned above. I don't know the exact temp when it kicks in but I know it will do so below freezing. My truck does not have crruise control and on a real cold start it will not even idle at 750rpm, she jumps straight to 1k. It will hight idle park or in neutral w/ the park brake on.
I always high idle mine is neutral anyways with the park brake on. I don't think the 48re's pump fluid sitting in park. Only in gear or neutral.

There are two separate high idle systems on the MY '04 and later trucks. One is the low temp high idle. When certain temp conditions are met the idle speed will jump to 1,000 rpm. THis system is completely controlled by the computer. AFAIK, all of 'em have this system in place and active. The other high idle system is one controlled by the cruise control switches. On '04 trucks (only, not '04.5s), software must be added to the computer, then it must be enabled. The dealer tech must do both. TSB 18-004-04, which I can post a link to, describes the '04 change. This is applicable to automatic trucks only and to '04 models only. On '04.5 and later trucks, the software is already in place in the computer. The feature must be enabled by a dealer tech. Yes, stick trucks can be modified to have this feature, but you gotta do the jumper wire thing.
It was explained to me that the cruise control type high idle CANNOT be added to a '03 MY truck. The '03 computer and software are Chrysler's product. Starting in '04, Cummins took that over. Different computer, different software.

I installed the ECM pin and had the dealer enable the high idle - works like a charm and really easy to do.
Thanks to those that posted the information. If anyone wants the pin and doesn't have a Cummins part center nearby, send me a PM, and I'd be glad to get you one. It was about $12 for the ECM pin here in Portland.
