how to check for codes on a 3rd gen?

i know with 2nd gens i turned the key on/off 3 times but how do i check for codes on a 3rd gen?

I don't know about 2nd generations, but the 3 key turns works on my 2006.

Where do the codes show up and how are they read?

Cycle the key three times and the milage will show "Done" and then it will display a code if there is one present.
