Hope you can help!

This is a litte off topic but I need some help quickly and Not sure how many are in the RV forum! I stripped the spark plug threads on my almost new generator! I used the proper tool and everything and for some reason it was near the end of backing out properly and caught a thread and there she went! Aluminum head I believe. Is there any possible way to fix it or should I shart shopping for a new generator when money allows?? Thanks!

There are parts called Helicoil's. You drill out to a special size then install a new set of threads and they hold quite well. Before trying that have you tried to chase the threads with a tap. that should be your first attempt then go from there.

Good luck and hope all goes well.

Thanks! Would I pick up the tap at any autoparts store? Should I just take in the spark plug to show them so they know which one I need? I saw some thread taps online and looks like all I need is a rachet? Thanks!

You can find taps for spark plugs at the auto parts store. Take your spark plug with to get the correct size or write down the spark plug number.

I think I would take it somewhere. Better to spend 50-100 bucks and know its done right than to risk screwing it up bad.

If the helio coil doesn't work, you could replace the head as well. It will still be cheaper than buying a new generator.

Generator is fixed. Neighbor is an Onan guy but fixed mine easily. Took about 10 minutes. I did call the company and they offered a new replacement head under warranty but I won't need it quite yet! LOL
