HO/48re on the ground!!!!

Well guys we just got our first HO/48re dropped of today. I haven't tried it out yet because we are in the middle of a snowstorm and I wouldn't be able to get on it. Maybe tomorrow? If anybody is interested let me know. I have all ready offered it to Ton4Fun but if he doesn't want it it'll be available. ;D If anybody wants to see the window sticker they can see it at www.maczuk.net . Go to new inventory.

I don't want to buy it but certainly want a driving report, yesterday.

I guess you are not going to keep it?

Which one is it (MSRP) and how long did it take to deliver from ship/invoice date?

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

No I never even called the transport company on this one. It just got here that fast. We got a real good outfit haulin these things for us, they don't mess around. I thought you guys would like to know I went out and drove it. As far as the shift quality I thought I was driving a truck witha 47re instead of a 48re ??? ::)Sorry I know you guys didn't want to here that. The power was better than the old set-up. Not quite what I expected but it is 7degrees here for a high today and the truck only has 2 miles on it, so when it is properly warmed up and broken in I think it will be better. [eyecrazy]

dealseeker 01-23-2003 01:37 PM

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

Hey, that's OK, I loved the way the SO/47REs drove. I only decided on this set-up for supposed durability and a little more oomph for a measly $450cdn. :)

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

All I gotta say is that I hope it pulls better than my SO with a load. I like the way my SO gets around town when unloaded very peppy.

I'll give you fella's another report when I get a chance to take it out and run it for ten miles or so when it warms up.

Thanks Luke, and we want your honest opinion, don't hold back any punches, let us have it with both barrels!...Unless of course you don't like it...in that case lie through your teeth ;D.

ok well since i have never owned a diesel and the last 2 dodge tranied were the 518 model im not sure if the right up is giving a thumbs up or not. it still sound like the programing needs to be adjusted and maybe only the torque converter got a major improvemnet. at any rate i hope its not a mistake to have order that setup still kicking ariund the idea of the standard it will keep the wife out of the truck but then no remote start and the traffic here is horible.

Dan
Dan's page

He's too busy driving his "best light diesel truck auto in existance" Duramax/Allison :(. That's right, he has gone back to the other side.

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

No, no, no. Dealseeker you misunderstood me. I said the Allison auto tranny is the best light truck auto around, I didn't mean the Dmax was the best engine. I think it is a good engine, but not as good as the Cummins. Now this you can quote me on, If Dodge had the Allison tranny it would be the best truck on the market, hands down. :'( ::) [eyecrazy]

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

I knew what you meant, Luke. "If Dodge had the Allison", but they don't and GM does, therefore you believe it is a superior truck, at least for your purposes. :)

Luke S 01-28-2003 02:51 PM

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

Ok fella's, I just got to drive it again and it is 50 degrees today so it wasn't near as stiff. Here's the news. The seat of the pants o-meter definetely noticed more power and torque on acceleration. I was hoping the truck would have lock up in 2nd and 3rd during acceleration but it does not. The shifts are a lot crisper however, especially the 3-4 shift, man it is a hell of an improvement. No worrys about having the throttle wide open cause she's gonna shift smooth from3-4. The 1-2, 2-3 shifts still feel a lot like the 47 but are a bit better. Here's a big thing, TC lock-up while decelerating(exhaust brake compatibility). You can lock up the TC in 4th, 3rd, and in second by downshifting manually to 2nd and reving the engine until you feel the TC lock and then let off and you have lock-up :D Overall I think it is a huge inprovement over the 47re. I think it will suit a lot of people very well. However I don't think it will suit my needs because I need lock-up in 2nd and 3rd during acceleration for the loads I pull. Overall I was pretty pleased and I think it will suit most of you guys real well. 8)

Luke S 01-28-2003 03:12 PM

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

Dealseeker, I don't think the Chevy truck is superior, there is a lot of stuff I don't like about it. The ride is not as good, the steering, the brakes, the looks, the wheel&tire size. They do however have a superior auto tranny. :'(

RadioRex 01-28-2003 03:18 PM

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

Thanks Luke that is what I wanted to hear, will stick with the 48RE for my use and not change to the 6 speed. :)

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

Thanks for the report Luke. Do you happen to know if it is at all possible to mate a 48re to a cummins in a truck currently equipped with the 47re? I'm sure it can be done, but at what cost? How hard is it for the electronics to hook up, computer etc.? I wish I had waited for the new tranny, although I am not having any trouble with my 47re yet. However, If I do, I am gonna try to see about dropping a 48re in mine. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

Ok, I am going to attempt to learn something new here since I don't understand what you are talking about concerning "lockUp while acceleration".

Please explain.

Luke S 01-30-2003 03:00 PM

Re:HO/48re on the ground!!!!

Ok, with my Allison tranny on my Chevy I can put it in tow/haul mode and it'll have TC lock-up in 2nd-5th gears while accelerating and decelerating. It just helps you get so much more power to the wheels than with the TC unlocked as with the Dodge, cause it won't lock up until 3rd and 4th :'(
