High Idle
High Idle
I plowed for about 8 hours yesterday and the truck ran great. Pushed and the tranny got a little hot so I decided to let the truck sit in park for a few. When I put it in park the RPMs went to 1000 like it was in high idle for about 5 minutes or so. I Resumed plowing for another 3 hours and when I got out to shovel a sidewalk the truck was in N with the pbrake on and it went to high idle again for about 5 minutes. Is this normal? Also the overhead temp guage is wrong is there a reset for this? It was reading 94 Deg F while I was plowing.

It's normal for it to go into High Idle in park when it sits idleing for a few minutes in the cold weather. Mine does. I didn't know it would work in N with the E-brake on though. The overhead is a dealer thing to be fixed.
You can get the manual high idle turned on by the dealership. You turn the cruise on while truck is in park, press the set button, the truck will idle up. You can adjust the idle with the resume and coast buttons. Mash the brake, turn off the cruise, or touch the go pedal and it will come back to reg. idle.

High Idle options available for '06
First cold morning 20 degrees, took two tries to start. Idle did go to 1,000 automatically. Cruise buttons had no effect, is there specific instructions available to give dealer to enable all high idle features? Can you get 3 cylinder idle? What about Smarty will it enable 3 cylinder idle?
like stated earlier. when cold enough-truck will automatically go into high idle-1000 rpm's. the manual high idle is set through the cruise control button- this needs to be enabled through the dealership-there is a tsb on this.
