I have an 04 dodge and it won't start Iam thinkin its the grid heaters I changed the fuel filter 2 times in the last 2 days thinkin thats the problem but it keeps not wanting to start.

I KNOW IAM not suppose to use either However its the only way it starts .. with out using this i will be stranded in British Columbia so when i get back to Alberta iam goin to look into gettin a new relay for it for the grid heaters my buddy had this same problem. My question is where is this relay located and is it posible to take it apart and clean it??

Sorry man I cant help you but it stands to reason that your grid heaters are not workin or the ether going accross them would have blown the intake off of your truck. I'd say your on the right track.

 

It would also be only the first time I have heard of a grid heater failing

 

A bad injector will do same thing on a cold engine.

 

any way i can check them relays somehow? with a tester?

 

I am new to the CTD but wouldn't it throw a code if the grid failed? If you are not plugging it in maybe you should until you get it figured out.

 

If your #1 injector is bad it will make it so the fuel the bypasses the injectors and returns to the pump, when cranking. When you spray starting fluid it runs long enough that it quits by passing and will run. If it is a manual you can push/pull start it. I am almost betting thats your problem.

 

anyway that i can test the relays with a mulit meter? or some kind of other way?

 

it could be +5C out and still nothing till i spray either on the air filter.

 

With that Edge EZ on there I beat you killed an injector or 3. I doubt it is your grid heater but it is possible.

 

if i took the intake tube off above the grid heaters will i be able to see if there getting red or hot? it only starts when its plugged in or if i spary either in there.. but it takes more cranks then usuall. and if an injector went wouldn't there be diesel in my oil? Could it be a sensor somewhere that maybe detects when to turn them on?

 

checked my relays and they checked out ok.. now moving on iam trying to work on the small things before i start looking at injectors.. i have already replaced the #3. when someone turns the key i can't hear the relays for the grid heaters come on at all.. what turns these on? a temp sensor? its +6C outside in reality i they shouldn't even have to come on. right?

 

I's sure like to know where to go from here, been chasing my problem for ever. Not convinced it's injectors.

 

isn't the grid heater supposed to come on at 50f or less? someone chime in if know otherwise... just off the top of my head, maybe check out the ambient temp sensor..i don't know where it is. perhaps it's the sensor next to the intercooler?????
