Help! Belt Replacement Problem

I am trying to change the serpentine belt on my truck this morning and it came off just fine. I am trying to get the new belt installed and cannot get it behind a wire/tube that runs to the fan clutch. I am sure it is something fairly simple but at this point I am baffled and have to get this belt back on the truck. Any help would be appricated.

Not sure since I have not done one myself yet. But this is the entire install instruction in the DR manual.

INSTALLATION
CAUTION: When installing the accessory drive belt,
the belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may
overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong
direction. Refer to (Fig. 10) or (Fig. 11)for correct
engine belt routing. The correct belt with correct
length must be used.
(1) Position drive belt over all pulleys except
water pump pulley.
(2) Attach a 1/2 inch ratchet to tensioner.
(3) Rotate ratchet and belt tensioner clockwise.
Place belt over water pump pulley. Let tensioner
rotate back into place. Remove ratchet. Be sure belt
is properly seated on all pulleys.

Thanks RamWheelsBy4, I have that diagram out at the truck but as of right now I cannot figure out how to get the new belt on. I replaced two of them on my old 01 but cannot figure this one out yet. There has to be certian way to get the belt back around the fan. If I can get it that far I can follow the diagram.

I had the same sort of problem when I put on the vacuum pump for my Jake Brake. I just could not figure out how to get it around the fan and around that tube. I spent a good 45 minutes to an hour looking at it from the bottom and from the top. I finally figured out that the belt DOES NOT have to go around the fan to get installed. It all sort of loops around UNDER the fan with half the belt on the left side of the engine and the other half on the right side of the engine.

All I can say is to keep working at it with that in mind and you will get the belt back on. I do have to agree, it is sort of a puzzle, but it will work out and you will be able to get the belt reinstalled properly.

Anyone know what a dealer charges to install the belt? Plus what it will cost me to get the truck towed this looks to be a very expensive belt change. I am so close but cannot figure out how to get the belt looped around the tensioner pulley. It is geting colder outdside and I am about to give up.

DMH, could you give me anymore directions on how the belt goes around the tensioner pulley? I just cannot believe a belt is going to beat me but if I don't get this figured out soon I am going to have to call a tow truck and have the dealer do it. I watched how I took it off but be **** if I can get it back on!

This is how it looks to me. Start by laying the belt on top of the #5 radiator pulley (flat side against the pulley) then install around the other pulleys in this order based on the diagram:

#4
#6
#7
#8
#1
#2
#3

As stated earlier, it doesn't actually go around the radiator fan.

Finally after 3 1/2 hours the crisis is over. Thanks to you guys for your help. We live in the country and my wifes said she would swear the moose up in Canada could hear me cussing.

It can get pretty confusing, it's a longgg belt. Under the hood to under the truck and back and forth. It took me a few tries and a few cigs, frustrating with belt routing diagram right in front of your face, wondering what the heck. Definitely a sigh of relief once you get. Hope the next one goes easier.

Isn't Spicewood on the Pedernales near Paleface Park?

Yes it is Mike. We are about 2 miles from the entrance to Pace Bend Park (they use to call it Paleface Park).

Beautiful place! I spent some memorable summers at my buddie's house right on the river. Water skiing, and drinking like there was no tommorow. Has it been all built out, or is it was like it was back in the early 80's? A little slice of heaven as far as i'm concerned!!
Cheers
Mike
