Hard start related to break?

I've had starting issues for some time now.
Initially, the hard start was only cold weather related, now it seems to be related to the break pedal somehow?!?!
I've noticed that if I'm holding the break fairly solid, the truck will just keep turning over. If I let out the break, it'll start?!?!?
How can holding the break keep the pickup from starting. I tested this out to make sure, on level ground, and it holds true, whether the weather is cold, hot, or the engine is cold or hot.
How are the two related?

batteries are only about a 1 yr old, connections and cables look fine. Seems to be turning over strong.
I thought I was just imagining things, until I tested it out.
Originally, I thought that I had a leak in the fuel system somewhere that was allowing fuel to syphine down because I was only noticing it when parked on an incline, usually with the engine higher than the bed. However, Friday, parked at a slight incline, I couldn't get it to start, I let off the break while turning over and it busted off.
I tested this again, on level ground this time, holding the break, and same thing, no start; let off the break, started?!?!
Makes no sense to me.
