Put in the GV overdrive last week and the driveshaft was picked up on friday. Here are some results over the past weekend. Empty on flat ground cruising at 65, 16.5 mpg without GV on for 35 miles. Same stretch 21.2 mpg with GV on same speed cruising at 1600 rpms compared to 2000rpms. Cruising at 70, truck was getting 13.6 mpg without, and 16.9 with it on. Rpms were 2250 off and 1750 (+/- 50) with the GV on. 80 mph is 2000 rpms with the GV compared to redline almost without. Truck has 2000 miles now and mileage should go up some. Total price for the whole thing with driveshaft modification was 2,875 dollars. It will take a few years to pay for itself, but it will pay for itself.

Can't wait to get mine on the flats to see what my long distance MPG will be.. Average 18-19 with it in every tank with hills and stop n go.

Makes it hard to go 65! 70-75 seems to be OK. I get better MPG at 75 with the OD than I did w/o it at just 65! Sweet!

For me it was more then the MPG and the savings. The ability to drive at traffic speeds (75-80) w/o having the truck screaming at high rpm is what really sold me. The fuel savings don't hurt either

I bought it at Valley RV in Wasilla Alaska. You can look them up on the net and have it shipped directly from gear vendors to your house. I paid 2550 shipped to them. I picked it up from them. I installed the unit in about 1.5 hours but if you look in my pictures, you will understand why. With the lift it was very easy. The wiring process took another 3 hours to run it right. I mounted the on/off control box where the cup holder is on the autos. The swich for the on/off is on the shifter right next to my jake brake controller. The instructions were very easy. I had to wire more because of the jake brake, but very easy to do. The driveshaft is what took the longest. Well worth it.

Yep, little rocker switch on the shifter with a red LED in it.

Just make sure you wire the 4x4 light into it so you don't engage it in 4x4!

I flip the big switch on the controller box too... Just in case! EEEK!

I don't trust the 4x4 light.

 

Man, sounds sweet!!! I want one too. Not so much for mileage but being able to flow with interstate traffic without turning 2400 rpm (Course, who wouldn't want better mpg). I bet it makes it a much more friendly traveling truck. Plus splitting gears to keep up RPM.
OH WHAT KIND OF FLUID DOES IT TAKE? ALSO I'VE HEARD YOU CHANGE FLUID EVERY ? 4 or 5 K miles. Does it look easy and quick to change?

It takes about 48 oz of synthetic mopar manual tranny fluid. Fluid is easy to change.

Is there any extra noise with the overdrive unit?

 

No extra noise... Just the "Clunk" (or a dull thud) when going from OD to stock gear.... A very slight noise when going into OD.

No noise difference when in OD or not in OD.

 

Yeah, John I cant even hear it going into OD when I depress the clutch. It does make a quiet thunk when I take it out. I almost wish I had 4.10's now.
