Gear ratio Q....

I just bought a 2006 Dodge 2500 Cummins Diesel quad cab with a 6 speed manual tranny.

I looked and looked, but cannot find what my gear/axle ratio is.

Where would I look to find that info???

I believe there are a couple of options.... 4.1 and 3.73 ?????

Any help greatly appreciated.

Yup, those are the ratio options for a 3rd gen.....

If you post in the 3rd gen engine and drivetrain section you will likely get more hits.....not being a 3rd gen junkie, I'm not not sure where the build sheet/sticker is located. FWIW, on a 2nd gen and depending on the year, it is on the under side of the hood near the latch or inside the glove box door.

I thought that all Getrag 6-speeds have 3.73's from factory?

Yes, if its a 2006 with 6spd , then its a 3.73 rear end. The 4.10's are not available for a G56 truck.

What is a "getrag"???? What is a G56???
Both manual transmissions that are being used or have been used in Dodge Cummins trucks. The G56 is the current manual gearbox being used and, if I'm not mistaken, is a Chrysler product that has been used in Mercedes commercial duty trucks for several years.
The Getrag was used in the older Dodge Cummins trucks. Not sure if it was in First Gen or Second Gen.

Due to the G56'S lower overdrive, the 3.73 is the only option, it is effectivley like having the NV5600 with 4.10's

Getrag is a first gen 5 speed and not too strong from what I hear.
NV4500 is a second gen. 5 speed (replaced the get rag)
NV5600 is second and third gen. 6 speed
G56 is the newest third gen. 6 speed with a lower (higher numericly) overdrive ratio and also a lower first gear ratio (IIRC)

Hope this helps.

Very informative answer, rockcrawler304...I was always under the impression that Getrag and G56 were the same thing.

Thanks for the clarification

Too bad they had to use 3.73 only with the G56 just because of the OD. All the other gears will be higher overall ratio and farther apart instead of a lower granny and closer splits of a 4.10. Craig
