That is not correct. The 75w 140 oil is for use in the rear axles (only) on Ram 1500 trucks, Durangos and Dakotas.

Our trucks, the Ram HD 2500/3500 trucks are supposed to use 75w90 GL5 Synthetic. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2004/03-001-04A.htm

I use SynerGyn in all our diffs - IMO it's the best product available.

I'm running the 75-140 in the rear diff to stop the chattering we've discussed a couple of times.

That was fun, I just finished up. Those are massive carriers. I just reused the rubber gasket hope that was OK. Is that extra gear that looks like flywheel teeth a speedo drive gear ? I put Redline 75/140 in the rear and 75/90 in the front. Speaking of the front it looked like it is a "high pinion " Is that right ?

The rubber gasket is designed to be reused. As long as they were in good condition, they will be fine.

I believe the toothed thing you are talking about is an exciter ring, for speed sensor on top of the rear axle housing. I think it's a hall effect type.

Thanks Jeff, I did look at them real close and they looked perfect. I was happy not to need RTV. I'm not sure I understand the hall effect thingy

5 qts of (desert weight) RP 85w140 in the diff, by the B schedule. 6 qts of RP maxgear in the trans, frequency TBD. 15k on the maxgear so far and it still shifts like day one. I had to change the old NV4500 every 20-30k to keep it shifting the best - 5 qts of the DC stuff worked best in it.

Dodge may say 75-90 , but American Axle says 75-140 if you tow. They were the designer for the axles.

The only ones they wanted to change from 75/90 to 75/140 was the 8.5 and 9.5 rear ends used in the 1500 trucks. The gear oil change did not affect the 10.5 and 11.5 rear ends used in the 3/4 or 1 ton trucks.
