g56 conversion

well pulled the trigger on the parts to do the swap. going from 48re to g56. Buddy in Texas is storing the parts until I can get out there to do it. CD in NM gave me her driveshaft out of her truck since she went to a 1 piece.
bought the wiring harness for $86, shift boot for another $86 (those will be here today).

tranny
bellhousing adapter
clutch pedal, linkage
stock clutch/dual mass flywheel (going to install a SB 3250 DD though)
upgraded hydros
main harness

Looking foreward to the swap. going to lay out all the parts first to make sure I can do this in a single day. Already contacted Bob Wagner to update the ECM to make it think it is a manual. Have a good friend that runs a wrecking yard looking for a steering column.

going to be selling my entire 48re set up as a package deal for someone who wants to convert theirs to auto. My tranny is 2 months old.

You going to do the swap out in Tejas ?? I was looking forward to driving up and watching, maybe lending a hand or handing tools . .

I suppose after this it will be the S T R E T C H . . . that I have to see too. Lemitar is just an hour and a half away.

Good luck and keep us posted on the progress. I'm wanting to do the same conversion, and currently on the lookout for a wrecked donor truck.

I want to do the same conversion myself. What is the total cost you have in it so far? I have a rebuilt trans with ATS internals, but I don't enjoy how harsh the shifting is when I turn the Smarty down for daily use. I would really enjoy the read if you keep this updated so those of us who do want to follow in your footsteps know what to expect.

CD

it will be done here in town Carol. I have to go to tejas to get them as Lucus met the guy that was selling them and is storing them in his barn for me and lookin for a couple of small items I still need. Getting the harness and shift boot today. Crossing my fingers that the harness that I ordered is all i need or I will be on the hunt for the other side to complete the electrical side of the swap.

just bought clutch pedal, pin, bushings, c-clips, shifter boot, body boot (from body to the 2nd boot) all for less than $75 from the dealer.

Figured since the tranny came out of an 05, I was not going to take any chances of the shift lever being the same or not especially with the price I just got it all for brand new.

Awesome Chris!! If you need me to take any pics of mine or check wires to make sure you get it right the first time just let me know. Wish I could go up there to help with the swap but I bet it won't work out for me time wise.

So will the Smarty flash for your ECM allow you to run stock tuning if you want/need to?

Good luck on the swap. The .79 OD will be great for the 37's (or larger) you must be running with 9" of lift.

cbrahs,

Is there a reason for choosing a G56 over a NV5600? Is it because that's the manual trans that came in 07's?

Chad- I will let you know when we do the swap and thanks for the offer brother

AH64- I have talked to Bob and he is ready to email me the program to make mine think it is a manual. said he has done many of them

clutchless- I chose the g56 cause i got a KILLER deal on EVERYTHING (minus the goods required for 06-07). the tranny I got came out of an 05 with 100k on it. bone stock, even stock air cleaner. had a buddy in east tx check it out at 1am for me and said shafts are VERY tight, no abnormal play, fluid looked killer and have the bellhousing adapter (between the block and tranny as it is different from the auto to the manual), stock clutch, pedal, harness (but for an 05) and shifter.

I will post pics of the progress. I want to lay everything out next to the truck before we even start to make sure we can do this in 1 day, 2 max to be on the road. Going to order a southbend 3250 dd with hydros.

After I am done, I will be selling my entire setup so if somone is interested in doing an auto conversion, my tranny is only 2 months old (got it fully rebuilt a couple months ago while under warranty including the converter).

Yeah if somebody buys your auto to convert from a manual, I'll buy their manual tranny and all of their hardware to do the swap on mine.
