I'm going to change my oil tomorrow or the next day, I'll whack the old Fleetguard filter apart with my genuine "CAT" oil filter cutter (which I picked up at the flea market for a buck) and report back on what I find inside.

Not sure if they still do but Fleetguard use to make the Mopar oil filters for Dodge. Though it's there standard paper filter and not their best oil filter the Stratapore.

Just a heads up on some info that I just found out about!
Where is this information published? I do not use K&N oil filters but according to them their oil filter meets or exceeds Cummins manufacturing specs. Not that I don't believe you, but the rumor mill is rampant on this web site and there is a lot of false information given that people believe just because it is listed on the forum.

advance auto is scary. At my local store, I didn't see any Mopar filters, or K&N oil filters, but they had a wall of Frams
I just left.

K&N says the filter is for the 5.9 litre Cummins Diesel. The list that it does not have an anti-drainback valve, but my question is where is that listed from Cummins that the filter must have an anti drainback valve?

I agree that there's not a lot engine above the filter but it's enough to allow Cummins to deny warranty if the filter doesn't have an ADBV.
Total BS. The purpose of the anti drain valve is to prevent a moment of oil starvation on startup when the filter is top or horizontally mounted. Some cars have an anti drain valve in the engine and don't require a valve in the filter. Top mounted filters and vertically mounted filters without antidrainback in the filter or engine will cause the valves to rattle on start up many times. I don't care for K&N products but it is amazing how much total BS is slung on this site.

Where on the Cummins site does it say that a filter with no drain valve voids the warrenty? I saw the K&N site but my question is where is does it say that on the Cummins site, the owners manual or a Cummins maintenance and repair manual?

I finally got around to changing my oil today and I cut open the old Fleetguard filter. It didn't have an anti- drainback valve.

Uh? The oil filter's pretty high - clearly there are passages to it but how much's above the filter?
