Thumbs down Fuel Pressure, Duration & Timing

DOES ANYONE HAVE A STEP BY STEP ON HOW TO ADJUST THE FUEL PRESSURE, TIMING & DURATION. I JUST PURCHASED A 2005 CTD AUTO AND AM VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FUEL ECONOMY. I PUT AN EDGE CHIP IN AND MY MILAGE ON 1 IS 13.9 ON 5 ITS 14.6 IN THE STOCK MODE IT IS 15.2. THIS IS VERY SAD. I TOWED MY TOY HAULER THIS WEEKEND FOR THE FIRST TIME LOAD DOWN I'M CALCULATED WEIGHT AT 11,675 GOT A MANUAL CALCULATION OF 7 MILES TO THE GALLON. WENT 230.2 MILES ON 32.455 GALLONS OF FUEL. I'M LOOKING FOR SOME HELP, NOT SOME SMART AZZ COMMENTS ABOUT MY DRIVING AND KEEPING MY FOOT OUT OF IT. I HAVE DROVE THIS TRUCK LIKE A WHIMP TRYING TO JUSTIFY MY BUY A DODGE. BY THE WAY. ALL OF YOU GUYS WHO USE THE OVER HEAD CONSOLE TO FIGURE YOUR MILAGE, YOU SHOULD DO AN ACTUAL MANUAL CALCULATION. MY OVER HEAD MILAGE CONSOLE IS VERY INACURRATE. IT WAS READING 10 MPG.

How many miles on the truck?

Any problems starting in the morning?

Check your oil and make sure there is not diesel in it. Also look underneath to see if there is any oil on the underside. Might have a bad injector dumping fuel in the oil.

If it doen't have many miles on it yet it might get poor mileage at first.

Directions on adjusting fuel pressure, timing and duration:

1) Buy a fueling box
2) Install it
3) Start truck
4) Clean up mess

You can't really adjust these items without the help of a fueling box or downloader. You can add a little timing by getting a Rokktech crank sensor or doing the Tone Ring Mod....

Did you have your speedo recalibrated with the larger tires? If not your calculations will be off due to larger tires and will have to adjust accordingly.

What is your tire pressure? (I end up asking this on every thread I post in about fuel mileage issues. Nobody else ever seems to think it's important enough to ask the person having the problems. Wanna see an instant 2.5 or better mpg increase? Take a truck with 45 or 50 psi in the fronts and air them up to 80.)

i was using the edge attitude for my actual speed which was 6 mph slower @ 65. but my speedo has nothing to do with 7 mpg towing my trailer.

So are you saying the truck does not have any of these settings and the fix is an after nmarket part? I know about The roktech sensor but,
What is a fueling box?
What is a Tone Ring Mod?

With your gearing and tire combo, you are out of the correct powerband most likely. How fast are you running, are you in overdrive, what is your rpm?

With a 6" lift and 35" tires, I would say you are doing good to get 15MPG. With your truck set up the way it is you have a lot of variables that affect your mileage and how you need to calculate it. If all these are factored and figured out and you can still get 13-15mpg, you should be happy. Just MHO

The odometer is tied the the speedo. So if the speedo is off so is the odometer.
If the speedo is 6mph slower than actual the odometer will read less miles than actually traveled.

The Tone Ring Mod is just a free way to get what the Rokktech gives you. Do a search and you will find the instructions on doing it. It's pretty easy. Aftermarket fueling boxes and downloaders are what you need to get more duration, pressure, and timing out of your engine. There is no simple screw you can turn to get any of this.

Get a Smarty and run it on programs 1, 2, or 3. You can try all kinds of different things, but if you want to see immediate results, get a Smarty.

What rpm and speed are you running at? Any thing over 21-2200 rpms will start to drop your MPG. Also with a 6 inch lift with 35 inch tires also eat up MPG. Not trying to be a smart a$$ but if this is your first diesel you don't drive them the same way as you do a gas engine. Use the torque, not the HP!
