Will a Mopar fuel filter from a 2007 CTD fit in 2004 CTD? Are they the same?

 

As long as both trucks are 5.9's and not 6.7's, than yes, they'll fit. But I wouldn't use a Mopar filter though, they only filter to 10 microns absolute. 10 microns is far from the proper filtration rating that a common rail injection system needs. 2 microns is the best, but 5 is a whole lot better than 10. If you want a better filter, go buy a Baldwin PF7977. They filter to 5 microns absolute, and they'll fit in the stock filter housing.

 

Do you know what micron the fuel filters are from Genos garage?

 

They offer the standard (10 mic) and the premium (7 mic). Get the premium, or even better get a Baldwin (5 mic) somewhere else.

 

They only offer the Fleetguard FS19856, which has a rating of 7 microns. They used to sell the Mopar and Fleetguard 10 micron filters, but recently they stopped stocking them.

 

Where are you guys buying the Baldwin?

Compared to Associated diesel who charges $13.xx for the filter and $6.00 for shipping, it's right in the ball park. I'll usually buy two at a time since I change them every 7500 miles.

 

Where can I find the micro on the filters ? I went to the web site you posted but could not find out there micro !

 

Mopar/Fleetguard is phasing out the 10um filter. It is no longer speced for any engine.

The Baldwin is the best thou.

I received it thru several emails with Baldwin. Its 5um absolute.

 

On your next trip through Tomball stop by Performance Truck Products on FM 2978, located about mile north of FM 2920. They sell the Baldwins for a little over $12.

Is there a performance difference between a 10 micron fuel filter and a 5 micron filter? Seems like they would be restricted or need to be changed more often. I dont know so i thought Id ask.

 

You may not find this information on their website. I made contact (by phone) with Baldwins' technical service department with questions in regards to their fuel and oil filtration products a few months back. The representative mentioned this fuel filter is rated at 2 mic (nominal) and 5 micron (absolute) at 98 percent efficiency.

The subject of fuel filtration has been researched extensively by forum member AH64ID, as a search on the subject will clearly demonstate his findings.

 

I currently have 29K miles on the filters in my truck. That is with only about a .5psi change from new at WOT. That a 20um, 5um, and 2um absolute filter setup... So no you won't have an issue running 5um. In fact the current OE filter is 7um and they are developing a 5um filter. With a rail that runs at 23K psi it is imperative to have clean fuel.
