Hey guys. New here, and new diesel owner. Trying to do some research to make my truck last as long as possible. It is a 07 with the 5.9 Cummins.

My dad has the same truck and he uses a lubritcation that he hadds to every tank full of fuel. I cant remember what it is called, but it comes I believe a gallon at a time with a pump on it etc.

Any reccomendations for a added lubrication? Is it needed? Waste of money? If it is needed and does help, what does it help?

He has the Smarty Jr. and when you get on it, blows smoke everywhere (works really well when next to a little rice burner Honda with windows down). Does the additive cause the smoke?

When I bought a new 97 CTD, an old friend at Denver Cummins RM said they see a (good) difference in fuel components that used lube additive and according to Central Motive Power, one of the biggest Bosch shops around, highly recommended it to prolong the life of lift pumps as well as the rest of the system. I've used Lube Engineerd DCI+, Stanadyne Perf. formula and Shaffers Diesel treat and get a solid 1/2 mpg with all of them so it about half way pays for itself when I buy it in cases. The smarty and a lead foot cause the smoke! Craig

I use Power Service too, and I also use FPPF to help keep the injectors clean and remove water.

I run Lucas injector cleaner/ lube. If I get a little crazy with the amount I add (over due it) it will smoke all the time. I think the most important thing you can do is filter the fuel. I factory filter is absolutely inadequate for our trucks!!! Especially if you add pressure.

Well, I went to Walmart last night and bought a 80 ounce bottle of the Gray, Power Service.Surprised how cheap it is! Added the proper amount for how much fuel my tank has last night. Well advise if I notice a difference or just take your word for it that its working.

 

I have been using an additive called gen49d, made by power up. They actually publish the results from the scar lube test, etc. on their website. Notice a little increase in fuel economy.

 

I was given a few bottles of Ford cetane booster that I run once in a while. I haven't done any sharp pencil math to see if it makes a difference in MPG, but the truck sounds smoother.

 

I figured out how to change the setting on my Quadzilla, so between setting it to the max mileage setting, and adding the lubrication I hope to see an increase of mileage.
