Fuel Additive

Since the "new" diesel fuel has so much less "lubricity" I'm wondering about using an additive. What is your opinion and which additives are you using???

What year is your truck? If it's 2006 and below, you can add 2 cycle oil. 1 ounce per gallon.

I have used Power Service in the past, but I recently started using Lucas fuel additive. I notice the truck has a little more pep over the last 2 tanks and it seems to idle a little better. Of course, I could be loosing my mind.

I have to start running some too. My truck is in the shop again needing injectors and when I asked why they said that D/C is telling them this new low sufler fuel is the reason and that we are suppose to run additives.

Stanadyne is what I use, with each fill-up. Here's a link to Geno's Garage:

2 cycle oil as an additive

The mechanic told me my lift pump was getting noisy.....I noticed on first startup in the morning that while I waited for the preheat light to go off, I could hear a chuttering sound which I assumed to be the lift pump.....it would run for a few seconds and then shut off.

I started adding a quart of ashless 2 cycle oil per fillup as some of the posts on here suggested and lo and behold....no more noise from the lift pump. Doesn't seem to affect performance in any way that I can tell but it does seem a little bit quieter at idle.....not sure if that is a plus or not, since I like the noise.

In one of the largest threads I've ever seen about diesel lubricity and additives this link shows the results of an independent study and MM actually made the lubricity worse.

There is a guy on cumminsforum who is qualified to answer any of our questions on petroleum, lubes, cleaners etc. He is a petroleum scientist. There is a sub-forum in there called fluids and lubricants that he is normally on. He is very educated and thorough about anthing lube and additive wise. There are a ton of posts and many hours of reading that will melt your eyeballs out of your head trying to read, not to mention a whole bunch of links and analysis to back up the results and claims. Some of the findings will change your tune about what you add in your truck. I'd rate the reading on there at 2 coffee pots, because your'e gonna need it to get through all those pages!
