front rotor removal

Do the front disc brake rotors have to be pressed/pulled off of the hub?

Getting ready to do a brake job and trying to decide if I should tackle it myself. I had to press the rotors off of my 1996 GMC 3/4 ton and it was PITA.

I did mine not long ago and needed quite a few HARD hits with small sledge. Once they came off you could see where they were just rusted together but hold very well. I started to think something else was holding them on but it was just rust..
