front end lube points
front end lube points
While I had the truck on the lift yesterday doing an oil change, I lubed the front end.
I only found two zerks, one on each side. I used the needle attachment to push 5-7 pumps into each ball joint as well.
I looked for the mysterious front driveshaft lube point, couldn't find it. I did use the needle and inject grease into the bearing/driveshaft support for the rear drive shaft (long box).
Anything I missed?

thanks. I'll have to go look for it again. All I have for my grease gun is a needle point - much like an IV needle. It's great for penetrating the ball joint boots and lubing the front end.
I don't believe they would warranty balljoints anyway - unless it was a recall like on the Durangos and Dakotas. I lived through this on my Durango, 62k and both front top ball joints were so shot the front end could not be aligned. The recall only went back to 2000, I had to foot the bill for my 1999.
A little grease through a tiny needle hole in the boot is well worth the insurance and peace of mind that they are lubed. The problem on the Durango/Dakota balljoints was lack of lubrication. Most of the DIYers installled Moogs b/c they had grease fittings.

ok guys I finally found mine . Took off cross member , only has 4 bolts. Then I cleaned the back u-joint clean and would you believe it a small silver circle with a small hole in the middle. Put the gun with napa needle to it and put grease in. I was facing the back of truck when I found it. After greasing it I reinstalled crossover piece and would not have to remove next time as I now know where to look.
The regular iv needle looking point that fits on the end of your grease gun will work just fine. Just push it in the hole. Once you find the fitting, take a paint marker and put a mark on the driveshaft so you dont have to search for it next time
