front end lube points

While I had the truck on the lift yesterday doing an oil change, I lubed the front end.

I only found two zerks, one on each side. I used the needle attachment to push 5-7 pumps into each ball joint as well.

I looked for the mysterious front driveshaft lube point, couldn't find it. I did use the needle and inject grease into the bearing/driveshaft support for the rear drive shaft (long box).

Anything I missed?

thanks. I'll have to go look for it again. All I have for my grease gun is a needle point - much like an IV needle. It's great for penetrating the ball joint boots and lubing the front end.

I looked all over today and didn't see it. Will look again. I would lube my ball joints but if they do go out, I think they are, the dealer will void the warranty.

Unless you got an extended warranty, the only thing that should be remaining is the powertrain warranty, 7yrs/100k.

I don't believe they would warranty balljoints anyway - unless it was a recall like on the Durangos and Dakotas. I lived through this on my Durango, 62k and both front top ball joints were so shot the front end could not be aligned. The recall only went back to 2000, I had to foot the bill for my 1999.

A little grease through a tiny needle hole in the boot is well worth the insurance and peace of mind that they are lubed. The problem on the Durango/Dakota balljoints was lack of lubrication. Most of the DIYers installled Moogs b/c they had grease fittings.

Don't feel bad guys - I've been periodically searching for the elusive needle-zerk fitting for quite a while with no success...

I was told by the service manager you have to take one end of the driveshaft off to lube it. Is this true?

ok guys I finally found mine . Took off cross member , only has 4 bolts. Then I cleaned the back u-joint clean and would you believe it a small silver circle with a small hole in the middle. Put the gun with napa needle to it and put grease in. I was facing the back of truck when I found it. After greasing it I reinstalled crossover piece and would not have to remove next time as I now know where to look.

The regular iv needle looking point that fits on the end of your grease gun will work just fine. Just push it in the hole. Once you find the fitting, take a paint marker and put a mark on the driveshaft so you dont have to search for it next time

I have looked twice, can't find the hole. 50k miles with no lube on it. Are you sure all have it?

I had to take the 4 bolts off driveshaft to find mine. But that's just cause I couldn't find it, and besides, why do it the easy way if you can do it the hard way. HeHe

If you took it in to a dealer for a lube job would they greese it or say it's not needed?

Look like I'll be back under the truck this weekend with my grease gun. Hope it's not as cold as last weekend!
