Cool First trip, what to watch out for?

I just got my 04.5 600 automatic quad cab swb a few days ago. Just had the rhino liner put in yesterday and the 5er hitch is being put in as I'm typing. The truck has 100 miles on it and I'm heading out from Layton, UT to Colorado Springs in the morning. My 5er weighs around 9500 wet and I'll have a 9 hour drive or so.

We will stay there for a week and then take off for Ohio and then return to UT.

Are there any concerns that I should be ware of (besides the vib at 66-75mph)?

The manual says that I shouldn't tow until I have at least 500 miles on the truck or that I should tow over 50mph until I have another 500 miles of towing. What do you guys think about this? I read the entire manual and most of it seems like more of a CYA than practical common since type stuff.

Would love some feedback.

Cheers,
RH

the 1st 500 mile waiting period is to give the gears a chance to settle in...other than that, i personally wouldn't keep it under 50mph for a 9hr drive, BUT i would vary the speeds as much as possible!! good luck and congrats on the new rig!!
later, dustin

haul

I'd stick to the 500 miles, that gives everything time to break in and not overheat. You can easily tell if your gears went out because they were overheated. Doubt if DC would warrant them. Give it a chance to break in and give her hell.

Just drive it and enjoy. Don't worry about things that lie dimly at a distance. Work with what you currently have at hand. Best thing you can do is tow first thing with it. All these guys baby their trucks at first. U really think the dealer prep guys drive the cars easy? Or the line workers? Startup bays look like landing strips. Have a great trip.

I would run it for about 50 miles, do a walk around to make sure everything with the truck and trailer are good to go, then drive it like you stole it

I would vary the speed a bit for the first couple of hundred miles, rather than setting the cruise at 75 and forgetting it. Just give things a chance to seat a little bit.

After that, just try to keep from tripping over that big grin
