Firm info on the 48re.
Re:Firm info on the 48re.
Only downside is you still can't use an exhaust brake with the auto per the dealership folks I talked with, who had gone to sales school the weekend before and I had asked them to ask this question. I'll be getting teh 6-speed HO. Significant emotional event to the wife though as she wanted an automatic and I insisted on the brake...

I'm sure you can spend $$$ in the aftermarket and solve the issue as others have, but I'll continue to shift for myself.

Re:Firm info on the 48re.
It is hard to believe so little was known about this new transmission for so long as I found an article mentioning it at www.car-truck.com dated Dec 18, 2001! It even says it will be available Jan 2003, right on the money.
Re:Firm info on the 48re.
That was when the cases with the new stamp 48RE were supposed to show up, so they could put the same innerds inside!

Just kidding, just kidding!

I prolly woulda gone for the 48RE myself, if it had been available, but, now am very happy with my 6 shooter.

I am sure DC would not be putting it out if they had not improved it some at least

Hunter
Re:Firm info on the 48re.
I am really interested in getting a 2003 3/4 ton with the 48re. I am in CA, and I am a little confused over what is currently availible where I am. Are both availible or is the 47re being discontinued and the 48re taking over?
Re:Firm info on the 48re.
The 48re is a replacement for the 47re. For a while, the 47re will be available on currently stocked vehicles I suppose. My dealer here in Canada said all of their current automatic orders have been changed to the 48re. I realize Cal has some of it's own restrictive rules but I wouldn't think transmissions would be treated any differently.
Re:Firm info on the 48re.
This may have already been asked before, and if so, I appologize. I must've missed that.

My question is:
Will the 48re fit in my 95 truck?
Is it as easy as just a straight swap or far, far more complicated than that?

If the 48re turns out to be a solid tranny. I might look into swapping my 47 for the 48.

Just wondering if this is possible?

Thanks
Rich.
Re:Firm info on the 48re.
Thats what I was inferring when I said:

The cost of switching the electronics may negate the benifit.

I'll probably be looking at getting a tranny soon. I'll keep watch for any info about making this switch.

Rich.

Study 48RE Info in 2003 Service Manual
I was looking through 2003 Service Manual for Ram Truck 1400-3500, Manual #81-370-03059CD, DaimlerChrysler. Starting on page "21 - 312 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 48RE" thru page
"AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 48RE 21 - 487" everything about the new baby. It should be good reading for those interested in comparing with the 47RE.
